A must see for anyone visiting Roanoke. A beautiful view of the Roanoke Valley with the majestic mountains that surround it. Take a picnic and enjoy the park, or take the kids to the zoo. It is a great inexpensive outing for friends and family.
My kids and I love going to Mill Mountain! It is beautiful, free, my kids like the play ground and open spac to play! I like the trails, hiking, and views
Great view of valley from overlook. Free park and overlook. Adjacent small zoo. 10-15 minutes from downtown.
We drove up to the Star, following the signs through town. On arrival the parking was very limited. There were several small groups visiting that day. A short walk around to the Star and we are looking over the city of Roanoke and the valley beyond. Bring your camera. If it's clear you can get some great shots.
We were in Roanoke to visit family and seen the star. We inquired about it and had to go see it. It is well worth making the trip! The view is amazing!!! We went up around 9:00 on a Saturday and there were a few other families there. It was not crowded and parking is adjacent to the star. I would highly recommend seeing this attraction if you are in Roanoke.
This is a timeless classic that never ceases to amaze. Visit during the day and watch the trains rumble through Roanoke carrying coal, the lifeblood of points West, to points East.At night it's fun to watch the lights of the city and see visitors and residents mix and enjoy the view. For the more adventurous, hike up so you can appreciate it even more. There is a nice playground and picnic area a little further down the path.
The mood is so inviting, It's wonderful if you have kids or are just spending it with a loved one, either way you'll be sure to have an enjoyable time.
Unusual attraction, adjacent to park, zoo and Blue Ridge Parkway. Great view of whole Roanoke Valley with many attractions. The place to visit.
Very romantic spot. I asked my wife to marry here. It is a very beautiful view of Roanoke and is a landmark for the city.
For years locals take out-of-town friends and family to see our Star that overlooks the beautiful Valley. The view is spectacular, and there is a "user-friendly" walk that takes you to another overlook. Picnic tables are spread around the area, and there is a darling little zoo if you have young ones. Locals go "up" to the Star at various times of the year just to enjoy a little day-cation or night view.
