Not a place for adults with good taste. Productions are silly & juvenile. You would think a city of this size would have legitimate theater. Regrettable.
The plays have all become MTV shows with loud music and people yelling rather than acting. Everything is forced instead of true acting. I am giving up my subscription after 38 years.
If you like an old theatre maintained as it was decades ago, you will love Actors. Alumni of Actors have frequently gone on to Broadway and various positions of authority in the arts. Don't miss Christmas Carol in season. A good restaurant and bar are attached.
Saw SIster Act there and it was fantastic. I had never been to Actors Theatre of Louisville before and I will definitely go back. The only thing was the seats were a little bit snug.
I just completed a weekend of New Plays at Actors' Theatre. Six plays in three days! It is the Humana Festival of New American Plays. The productions are well done. Nice facilities. The ticket prices are very reasonable. The patrons who attend these new plays purposely travel to see them. This makes for an extremely involved and passionate environment.
This is worth going to when they have the special shows in town. Otherwise it is average. The area needs more high quality shows on a more permanent basis.
I recently attended an performance of a new play as part of The Humana Festival. Excellent casting and acting, all elements came together to make the production a memorable experience. Came to the performance last minute without tickets after looking on line and seeing seats were available, bought them at the window and didn't have to pay any handling charges. Overall, a great time.
I love going to the theater and buy season tickets each year. You never know what you will see, but it will always be innovative and interesting!
I have been here numerous times and each experience has been wonderful. Love the atmosphere and the productions are superb.
We've had a season subscription for five years now, but will probably not renew. It seemed most of the shows were really good at first, but in the last two years we have not enjoyed a number of the performances and in one case left at the intermission-- something we never do. It had nothing to do with politics or language or religious issues; it was just that we found some of the shows either boring or inane. We will not abandon Actor's, but we will buy tickets for individual performances that truly appeal to us. The shows are always highly professional.
