We stayed two nights and did the full day power rafting trip - it was fantastic. We stayed in the tents which are wood frame buildings with canvas tents over top. No power, just a gas lantern. Great decorating touches with each cabin having a different antique theme. The beds were cozy with lovely feather duvets to keep you warm. The train runs on the tracks just below the resort and you hear it day and night. We were so tired from our adventures that the trains did not keep us awake - you just incorporate them into your dreams. It was part of the atmosphere! The food was also excellent. We had great big breakfasts and a really good Salmon dinner - mmmmm.Willis, Mary, Elliot, Terry and Jo - to name a few, are an excellent part of their team and really made our ladies group weekend amazing.
It was my first time going rafting when I went with Kumsheen and I had a great time. Our guide, Mary, helped us paddle the Thompson and gave us some local history and biology lessons. I really enjoyed this trip and would absolutely go again. Next time I'll do the full-day!
Had a great first rafting trip. Our guide Mary took us through the Devil's Gorge and had us all taking a spot in the front of the raft for a good face splashing. :) The wind was up and chilly, but thanks to Mary's offer of a wetsuit we stayed pretty warm. I definitely want to try this again, maybe even a full day trip.
Back in November I won a trip for 2 to the Kumsheen for my husband and I! The trip included a full day rafting trip with lunch, dinner, a night in a cabin and breakfast. So I booked our trip for Aug 27th! The full day rafting trip was amazing, the first half was relaxing with a few great rapids, went for a swim, the guide, Sam, was amazing she knew so much information and told great stories about each rapid and made our trip that much better! The restaurant was great, all the staff were so helpful, and always had a smile! Cannot wait to plan our next adventure with them next year...Hells Gate!!
Felt very safe in the hands of our guide, Mary. Hit some big waves in the rapids and enjoyed the exhilarating feel of getting splashed directly in the face during my turn at the front of the raft. Am planning another trip next year with my daughters, we might just try the full day trip.
This was or first time, so we did a half day trip. It was so much fun, we're planning to stay in a wigwam at the resort next year & do a full day of power rafting. The only disappointment was that we were there sept 1 & the restaurant had closed for the season on Aug 31.
Just as described in the promos - " All thrills, no frills", the half day trip through Devil's Gorge on the Thompson River was a blast. In a 12 passenger inflatable raft manned by a crew of untrained but willing paddlers under the direction of a very experienced guide we assaulted 18 sets of rapids almost fearlessly. The adventure is awesome. There is no hope, or I guess no intention, to stay dry. The size of the waves generated by the massive amount of water flowing through the incredible natural beauty of the gorge keeps your eyes wide open throughout the trip. The possibility of falling from the raft keeps your attention riveted to the task. A comfort level quickly develops and the fun really begins. The shared experience is enhanced by the instant camaraderie developed by working together to propel the raft and voluntarily exiting the raft to swim through some milder sections of the river. On a warm, sunny summer day, what better way to spend the afternoon than "drifting" down a river?
I went on the two day paddle/power rafting trip this past weekend. My boyfriend and I camped in the campground, which is quite scenic and has great amenities. If you're a light sleeper I recommend bringing some earplugs since there are train tracks nearby and trains do run at night. The first trip we took was rafting down the Thompson river. It was my first time whitewater rafting and it was a ton of fun, the water was warm, and our guide, Mary, was really experienced and a lot of fun. By the end of the day I was pretty much ready to quit my job and just raft all day errydayyy. Day two was the power trip down the Fraser river. It was very different from the Thompson, the vegetation and climate changes make each river quite unique. Again our guide, Willis this time, was great and had a lot of interesting info about the Fraser along the way. And the rapids were huge, and ridiculously fun. Regular life is significantly less fun this week.
Looking for a place to stay near Lytton to break up our trip back to the island, we decided to 'glamp' at Kumsheen. What a gorgeous setting! As others have mentioned the train noise from the canyon, I probably don't need to go into it, but... We did stay on canyon edge in a canvas tent and with 4 of us we had the range of responses to that: one didn't notice (deep sleeper), one found it relaxing, one it annoyed, and one didn't mind either way. So, decide what's best for you. There is plenty to do here from swimming, board games etc. inside the lodge (which also has a small snack bar), to basketball, tetherball, interpretive desert plant trail, giant chess, disc golf. There are inviting spaces with picnic tables and covers for groups to get together. In the 'spa' part of the pool we did find that the intake valve was too loud, so hopefully that will be fixed, but otherwise, we really enjoyed the whole experience and look forward to coming back with a group to take part in some rapids. For those that do not raft, it is a relaxing stay with lots to do with kids or others that want to hang out. Also, what is great for a group is that there are lots of spots for RVs or tents at a reasonable price instead of glamping.
Wow, this is definitely recommended. It's value for money and never a dull moment, even hanging on to the side of the boat when going through the tame rapids. I can't recommend this trip enough and wish we could do it again but a bit difficult in the UK. If you do go for it, do the day raft as the morning is great fun and builds you up for the afternoon. The meal at lunchtime was also good and you certainly won't go hungry with the amount of food on offer. They rotate people around the boat so you always get the chance to be at the front .... If you want to that is. Absolutely brilliant day, especially staying overnight in the teepees and having a lovely meal in the restaurant. Only downside is the number of trains passing in the night as the track is close to the site but the answer to that is have a drink .... Or two.
