We did the wine tasting (no charge) and bought 2 bottles to take with us. Our server told us the vineyards are in the finger lake region of NY. There was nice selection to sample (a dozen or more). The wines were very nice. As far as we could tell though there was no food available (bummer). This place would be a lot better if it provided some table seating and offered some cheeses & such for purchase along with wines by the glass. They have a nice garden area that could be used for this.
We stopped here on our way home after a weekend in Madison. The gardens are amazing, would love to sit out there and read!! Would love to see more tables inside and out for drinking wine and enjoying the atmosphere. Wine was excellent.
The winery is located near the river on a quiet lot. It has a cute little garden surrounding the property, a few little walk. Kellie was very knowledgeable and friendly. All the wines were delicious (only tried the sweet and semi-sweet), I especially like the one that is paired with dark chocolate. A fun stop along the wine trail. I'll be back with the girls.
We were looking for a winery in the area and this one popped up on the map so we gave it a shot. It was very nice and the staff was very polite. The wine and prices were good so of course we walked out with a couple bottles.
I grew up in Madison amd have always been a big fan of the Lanier Winery. Not only it just walking distance to all the major historical landmarks in Madison, but they have amazing wine! We got married over Memorial Day weekend and purchased all of our wine from the Lanthier winery. Our guests absolutely loved the wine and even went for a tasting before the ceremony since the winery was just one block from our ceremony site. Are bridal party was given a free bottle of wine when we stop for pictures who indulged in during our trolley ride. Great wine, great atmosphere, and great people! A must stop if you are in Madison or just passing through.
Before I review a place I usually read what others have to say. One person claims to have "Experience" in wine tours, yet rated this place with a poor. Another stated that this place seemed less than please to se our "group" arrive. An experienced person will know that each winery is unique in it's own way--including cost. This was not the cheapest place we had visited, yet, not the most expensive. The wine was unique with flavors and names. While I tend to be a more full bodied dry wine person, my wife likes sweeter. We each found a wine in the establishment we liked. No, it is not cheap--but you are at Boones Farm winery either. I enjoyed the fact we could taste as much as we liked until we were certain what we wanted.Next, remember, wineries are usually small establishments. If you are rolling in on bus with a large group, I am certain no winery will be excited to see you. Large groups at small places usually do not work. We travel with another couple when we goo on a wine tasting tour--works great! From my many travels I have seen this--"the larger and older the group----the more rude, unfriendly, and demanding they are!" Visit this place in a small group, and you will be very pleased. (p.s. I loved the Rifleport Red---I went back for two more bottles).
The wine is passable, if a bit raw. But it's a fun place to visit and have a nice time. It's in the historic area so it's an easy walking destination.
Twice a year we drive an hour to Madison to visit Lanthier. They have several small festivals during the year, and the winery does a separate flower and garden tour, which I love to attend! They have over a dozen wines, my new favorite is the Rivertown White. Lanthier offers free wine tasting, in a wine cellar type setting. They have an upstairs art gallery/ seating area, with tables big enough for 4 and the atmosphere is cozy enough for 2. The garden is perfect for warm weather, and there are several areas to sit and relax outside or inside. The master gardener and her staff are so friendly they feel like family, and that keeps us coming back year after year. The attention they put into the gorgeous gardens is also put into their wine. I've read other reviews that say their wines aren't bottled in Madison, but I don't think that is true of all of their wines. Regardless I usually come home with a case of various types and flavor a and they never disappoint. The prices are comparable to other winery's that we have been too. And the quality is well worth the price. If you want cheap wine go to Walmart, this is not cheap wine! It's always an enjoyable visit!
Thank you SO much ! What a wonderful time ! Every wine we tasted was absolutely delicious ! The staff was inviting and sociable... Looking forward to going back summer~fall seasons. And after hearing bout the Festival of trees i DO plan on a special trip to admire this "indoor winter wonderland"
The wine at lathier is the best in Madison in my book. All the wine's are tasty and reasonably priced. My wife and I really enjoy the seasonal Rudolph Red. It us a sweet wine and excellent. They usually start carrying it in the fall. If you enjoy sweet wines I would suggest you stop and try this one out.
