This too me wasnt really a musem it was just a room in the airport with things to look at I was kinda disappointed I really wanted to see some old planes.
What a nice collection. The history of aviation is very nicely laid out. The variety of memorabilia is quite nice. It provides well-rounded overview. Nods to women and minorities in flight are included without being preachy. It is too bad that the museum is only open to people with plane tickets. Perhaps it can be accessed with reservations? In any case, if you are flying out of one of the friendliest airports in the US, get there early and enjoy.
This little "museum" is inside the upper gate waiting area at the Fort Wayne Baer Field airport. It's free, but you must be a passenger to see it. Great for killing time waiting for a flight... and also interesting local aviation history.
I fly into Ft. Wayne a couple of times a year and always enjoy spending a couple of minutes looking at some aviation history.
It was not eye opening but a good way to pass the time. Nice information and details and a wonderful sense of nostalgia mixed with a good feeling of knowledge.
A very nice display, unfortunately it is in a secured area and requires the TSA screening to get to it. Therefore it is now a waste except for travelers. This needs to be either relocated or setup so the general public can see like in the old days before TSA.
The Fort Wayne Aviation Museum is located on the second floor of the terminal in the secured area. While it is small, it is thorough -- with information about local aviators and Fort Wayne's place in aviation history. It is a wonderful way to pass time waiting on a flight and they will arrange tours for groups who are not flying.
The great thing about this museum is that it is put together with some interesting items such as a Norden bombsite from WWII. The bad thing is it is located past security so few people can view. But groups who would like to do so can arrange it through the airport's Welcome Center. Highly recommended for history/aviation lovers.
We left out of FWA for a flight to Laughlin last month. This museum is always my time killer before every flight. They have a great collection of aviation related stuff. Kind of cool to the pics from years ago compared to what the stuff looks like now. I hope that they keep it. I will be checking it out again when I fly out in April.
