McGulpin's Point Lighthouse was a very pleasant surprise. It is free and a beautiful place to visit. You can walk to the top of the lighthouse and even venture outside onto the platform at the top. The views of the lake and surrounding area were fantastic. The interior of the lighthouse is furnished in period furniture and the gift shop has interesting items for sale. The grounds are well maintained and have beautiful flower gardens. There is a path that leads to the lake and more scenic views along the shoreline. Well worth a stop!
This was our fist visit to this lighthouse. We met Dave - one of main the people responsible for the acquisition and remodeling. It is a short walk to Lake Michigan to watch the sunset.
...with a great view of the bridge. Located a short distance from town and worth the trip. The hosts were helpful and friendly.
Very educational, a great place of history, very well maintained. This was our first time here, great surprise! We would recommend it to everyone. Going up in the lighthouse was very cool!
We never knew this lighthouse was here until we looked at the historic attractions pamplet put out by Mackinaw City. It was well worth the short trip from the city on a cold day. The entire building and lighthouse itself was very accessable and interesting. The lighthouse itself is not extremely tall, so it was fairly comfortable to walk on the outside around the light. The volunteers were enthusiastic.
The museum and lighthouse are well kept and loved. The staff was informational and pleasant. The video was good. Enjoyed the views of the lake. Also, the unexpected rainbow was beautiful!
I have been to Mackinaw City many times but have just discovered McGulpin's Point Lighthouse. This lovely gem is in a perfect setting and has been restored beautifully by the locals and Emmett County. It was staffed by knowledgeable and friendly folks and the price is right...free except for donations! The view from the top is spectacular as is the beach adjacent to it! Will absolutely visit again and again when I am in the area!
It was very interesting to see the light keepers house, and the view across the lake was beautiful. You see the full length of the bridge.
Very good self directed tour, plus they have an excellent video tribute to the ships and men lost at sea in shipwrecks on the Great Lakes. And, you can climp to the top and go outside the lighthouse at the top.
It was a cold, rainy day when we visited this lighthouse. But the ladies that were there were so welcoming and friendly we did not mind the weather at all. I enjoyed seeing the interior of the lighthouse building and imagined what it must have been like to live there. The grounds were lovely and quiet. This is one that lighthouse enthusiasts will want to visit.
