This abbey is in the south of the Vendée and is well worth a visit, there is not much of it left but what remains is impressive. During the summer months you are entertained by actors who guide you around the abbey.
Extensive grounds and buildings telling much of the history of the Abbey and the Marais in a very informative way. The performances given in the grounds were very engaging. We cycled here from Damvix
We were fortunate to have a glorious sunny day to visit as the ruins are mainly in the open air. It's well worth a visit complete with a free guidebook in English or French. You can get a discount if you've been to one of the other abbeys in the Marais and have kept your ticket. At 5 euros (or 3 discount) this is a steal.
A famous and important Abbey, now ruined, going back to Medieval times. Interesting film describing the history in the ancient refectory. Set in a large open parkland by the canal with great views and atmosphere. Convenient parking and near the old town.
Although only some of the buildings have survived time, the site gives a good idea of the vastness and importance of the abbey. The magnificent implantation and attractive surroundings valorize the abbey even more.
As a family with young children having the space to roam and explore such an impressive attraction was very welcome. We were surprised by how much access we actually got to the ruins - which certainly do look impressive. We say the 11h30 'show' (which comprised a group of singing actors), and although my French is limited to a GCSE from 1994 we managed to follow the gist of it. The singing itself was seriously impressive. This attraction is well worth a visit!
