My wife and I recently tied the knot at the NLDC over labor day weekend. What an unbelievable experience! Lynn Wildes is the social coordinator and guided us through the process of hosting our wedding there. We did the entire event from our pre-engagement party the day before the wedding (hosted at the directors house, where I recommend the bride and groom stay!) and the wedding and reception on site. It was a gorgeous location and the staff was unbelievably helpful! I would recommend the NLDC for any large function and if you are looking for a great wedding site!
I served on the DC board for 3 years and continue to volunteer whenever needed. We hike the trails in spring and fall and ski and snowshoe in the winter. Go on line for their schedule of programs and other info,I hiked there yesterday with my dog. (leashed only)
I've visited twice in recent years, and the facilities and programs keep getting better. I love walking the various trails, which include both short and longer options Lots of interpretive stations. Better yet if you go with a nature center guide or naturalist. They have lots of facilities for meetings, cabins for overnight or group events. Lots of winter activities, also.
Lovely walking trails, boardwalks winding through bogs and woodlands, access to boating and kayaks on site, nature programs, well groomed grounds, friendly staff. So glad we checked it out!
This place is quite beautiful. If you like birdwatching it is definitely a nice place. The trails are relatively well maintained so you don't have to constantly look down to make certain of your footing--keep your head up to search for birds! Plus, the variety of trail lengths makes it a nice place to take children of all ages. If you like the "wild" feel this will not be as pleasurable since it has more of a managed feel, but as even us "wilderness" hikers appreciate locations like the NLDC once in a while.
we love to stop at this gem and take a hike in the woods (mild). It has been restored and is absolutely gorgeous. A MUST visit!!!
Nice scenery and good place to walk around. People have weddings there, they host summer camps, and you can be outside and enjoy the weather. Many hiking trails.
This has been one of the best additions to the Manitowish Waters community. The hiking/snowshoeing/skiing trails around the lake are great! We have been scared by deer running through the woods, seen woodpeckers, and picked wild blueberries all in the same hike. The programs for both youths and adults are educational and entertaining. The Director's House is a great 2 br cabin for rent overlooking the lake. It's a must for anyone living or vacationing in MW.
There was a wedding on the lake with a reception. What a lovely place to marry. We took the boardwalk and it was long that we had anticipated. Guess I red map wrong. Just love it
We found the Center almost by accident in a visitor guide, and ended up enjoying the best day of our whole summer there! We visited on a weekday, and since there was no regular programming going on, we had the whole place practically to ourselves. We hiked all the trails and enjoyed a picnic lunch on the beautiful, well-kept grounds. I was delighted to learn that the watercraft we saw on the beach were available for use, so we then enjoyed the afternoon paddling around on the lake in a rowboat and kayaks--everything including PFDs provided by the Center on a freewill donation basis. The staff were lovely, and even offered us home-baked banana bread! I am very impressed and will become a regular supporter.
