Our favorite Virginia winery. Friendly, intelligent people who will chat if you want, or leave you alone, as you wish. The wine itself is among Virginia's best, and you can outside in the shade and enjoy the view. It's always a must-do when we're in the area.
We spontaneously stopped here while driving. The staff was very nice and informative about the wine. We ended up buying a bottle after the tasting and drinking it on their patio with a beautiful scenic backdrop.
We’re very big fans of the Niagara-on-the-Lake and Finger Lakes wine regions so we didn’t think we would find comparable vineyards outside of these areas. Great news for the people in Virginia and anyone traveling through the western part of the state – the West Wind Farm Vineyard & Winery can unequivocally compete! Their whites, especially their Riesling, are wonderful and very distinctive - a match for the more northern vineyards. Their reds are likewise excellent. The property is beautiful. The proprietors are absolute gentlemen and always very helpful. If you like good wine, make the quick trip off of I-81 to West Wind. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks for taking the time to write about your evening! I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself and the surroundings. We hope you'll stop again when you're in the area.
Hi folks, thanks so much for writing about your visits to the winery! We're so glad you enjoyed yourselves. Do come back when you get a chance.
We were venturing our way down 77/81 on our usual route back to North Carolina and decided to make a little rest stop to this little gem-- and we were so glad that we did. We ventured in and we were the only people... it was Monday at 230pm what else would we expect! The gentleman working was wonderful! I can't remember his name, but I know he went to UVA and he was 38. He was patient and we had a great chat even with our 5 month old in the baby carrier in front of me. (momma needs a little fun!) he did a great job explaining the wines and letting us walk and taste as we wanted to. We ended up getting a bottle of the River White and took it with our packed lunch out to the patio. We were able to let our dog sit there on a leash. The breeze and the scenery were absolutely perfect!! We will most definitely be making this our regular "rest area" on our trip back from Canton, Ohio. Don't let the 3.8 or whatever it is miles off the freeway deter you. Completely and utterly worth it!!
I'm a picky wine drinker and don't expect to find a good local winery. Maybe that's me (really, maybe it is me), but more than half the time I find a local winery, but I often find local wine thin and without much substance. West Wind Farm's West Wind Wine is not thin. It has flavor and it's complex. Win!Added to the quality of the wine,of course, it's local wine. The grounds are beautiful; the store is well kept and curated with excellent finds for your kitchen, table, and yard; and the staff is very pleasant. If I go down this road again I will surely be back. Thank you for the great experience.
Thanks for taking the time to write about your experience visiting our winery. I do hope you'll join us again on your next trip through the area.
Several times a year, the West Wind hosts evening dinners. The food is excellent, as are the wines, and the service is awesome. Expensive (about $50 per person), but everything is included. They don't really advertise these dinners, but if you visit or call the winery you can get an email telling you when they are and you can sign up.
Thanks so much for taking time to write about your visit to West Wind Farm. We're so glad you visited and hope you will again next time you head south on I-77.
