I had noted the distillery online as a place to visit while I was in the area. I have been on the KY bourbon trail and the experience at SA was every bit as good. Val was my host in the tasting room. She has great knowledge of the distilled spirits and tailored the tasting to my likes. Her recommendations were spot on and the experience was top flight. She has a passion for this and it shows. The conversation was as good as the beverages. The spirits are both unique and classic. I will definitely stop in on my next swing through Lewisburg.
Great distillery! Nice people, convenient location and some really great barrel aged gin. There are some really cool things going on at this place - check it out!
I love little places like this. Pulled in at the end of the day and received very good service. I tasted a few of their offerings and liked them. I understand that an aged bourbon will be out next year. I'll be back.
We stopped in here on a whim and really enjoyed it. Val was working in the tasting room and was very knowledgeable about the distilled spirits we tasted, she is a great lady to have on staff. We will be stopping in again the next time we are in the area.
Thanks SouthernLiving for the tip about stopping by the Smooth Ambler Distillery. The tasting room was lovely. The product is high quality and fantastic!
Stopped by on a rainy afternoon to check out the distillery. We were lucky enough to have Val working that day! She is a true gem for this company. We enjoyed her tasting and tour so much. Their products are excellent and very high quality. We were having such a good time we ended up staying for a good 3 hours. Thank you Val, you made our day fun, educational and delicious! Everyone should make this a must stop in Lewisburg!
We had friends to see in Lewisburg, West Virginia, so we drove down the four hours or so from Washington DC. Wow! What a surprise.First the magic of Lewisburg full of charming, delightful people and really good food. Then we found that we were surrounded by history, sitting as it does, on the very frontier of USA up until the early 1800's. But the crown in the jewel was the Smooth Ambler distillery. We did the tour and were staggered by the quality control, the cleanliness and most of all, by the ethics of this small company.I am a British gin lover and you can imagine my surprise to learn that their gin is now the hottest gin in both London and Paris!I learned so much during the tour and loved the vodka almost as much as their gin and rye. This is a superb example of how American ingenuity, pride, hard work and sheer guts gets superb results. They deserve all the success they will undoubtedly achieve.
Our girls trip to raft the Gauley took a detour when we discovered a nearby distillery. As soon as we entered the tasting room, we were treated like family. Val and the entire staff welcomed us, answered our (many) questions, and allowed us to taste the fabulous offerings crafted at this fine establishment. We were in heaven! Among our party, we favored the gin and bourbon spirits - but all were impressive. We arrived at the tasting room at 4 (it closes at 5), but the staff made us feel at ease and didn't rush our experience. If you're near Lewisburg, do NOT miss Smooth Ambler!
My husband and I were visiting nearby Lewisburg, and saw a flyer for this. We went on a whim, and we are so happy we did! It's a very cute place, nice grounds, easy to get to. The staff member, Valarie, greeted us and offered to do a tasting (free!) and show us around the distillery (also free!). They weren't busy at all when we were there (middle of the day on a Friday), so I am pretty sure we got a semi-VIP tour. My husband tried everything they had; Valarie even made us a ginger ale and gin mixed drink. She showed us around the rick houses, showed us the tanks, and where the grain was stored. We even got to taste whiskey in its early stages, right from the tap! I think we were there for about an hour, just a really great time.
Stopped here on a whim while in the area and what a great whim this was! It was a pretty quiet day so we were lucky enough to have the distiller & co-founder, John Little start off our tasting. The tasting room is gorgeous - they really should have more photos of it on their website; it's comfy and inviting. We sampled the gins and vodkas before Val came in and took over and we moved to the bourbons & whiskeys. My husband is the liquor drinker but I have to say the Rye Whiskey was killer and I thought the bourbon was sweet. The staff is wonderful here and the spirits are top drawer. We took a sample to our favorite bar back home and I expect they'll be ordering soon.
