I love old Texas county courthouses. This one has had a big "updating" that makes the inside feel modern and not like an historic building. It's run by a non-government group, and feels more like a new building inside. So, I appreciate that the exterior is preserved, but miss the authentic interior feeling.
The staff at the MPAC (McKinney Performing Arts Center), located in the McKinney Courthouse is fabulous. Amy and the others are friendly and accommodating, and they have a great venue to offer for all sorts of events - wedding, galas, community activities, church services, etc. Would highly recommend them if the venue accommodates your party size.
I work for the county and visit the courthouse on a regular basis. I have found the menu to be varied and the offerings to my liking. They offer soup and salad everyday, as well as grill items for breakfast and lunch items. The chicken fried steak is good and vegetables taste fresh. I don't like everything, but to be trapped at the courthouse on a cold, wet day I really like having the cafe there.
Now a performing arts center the old Mckinney Courthouse anchors the town's main square. We were there for a Christmas event and loved it.
We caught a concert at the McKinney Courthouse. Loved the history and entertainment. Acoustics were great. Cheap price and excellent entertainment.
Beautiful old courthouse in the hub of wonderful shops. Just to walk around it and imagine the changes it has seen.
The old courthouse has gone through renovation and is now reopened. It houses a performing art center however we have yet to see anything there. A tour inside reveals some old photos of the downtown area. You can cover this activity in a few minutes thus if you are downtown be sure and take it in. Interesting old building that we are glad they took the time and effort to restore.
All three floors are open to the public to walk through. There is a nice art gallery in the basement that is used fairly often for wedding receptions. The old courtroom (on the third floor) has been converted into a theatre. It is small but very pretty. The McKinney Repertory Theatre performs there and they have special events often. They have a Wurlitzer organ and use it to provide orchestration for silent movies. They frequently show old classic movies on Mondays. The second floor rooms are used for art shows and public events or can be rented out. Usually there is nothing in them. The cool thing about this building is all of the photo opportunities. The light is not bright so it is pretty challenging.
well, there's the old courthouse right on the downtown historic square in McKinney which is now a cultural center... and really well placed and well run. Then there is the awesome new county seat on the far north side of McKinney. They do a good job from the couple times I've been there. At night though, it's not well lit. There is construction at the exit at Hwy 75 so be careful there.
This is a classic Texas courthouse of the Texas Turn or the century era. someting that every person interested in that era should see. The square has a lot of interesting and unique stores and cafes. The area is not t be missed.
