We attended the Salute to Teddy Roosevelt held in the Old Town Hall Theater. What a great experience it was. The portrayal of President Roosevelt was magnificent. After the show, he takes questions from the audience, so do a little research before you go and can ask a question from a historical perspective.
This was an enjoyable hour spent with an excellent Teddy Roosevelt impersonator. He gave a good overview of Teddy's life with some interesting stories behind the events that are not well known. The only draw-backs were that Teddy started 10 minutes late, which made us anxious about making another tour on-time, and the noise level of the audience was unbearable. Please do not attend this show if you have small, tired children who want to scream and complain loudly. This distraction almost ruined the show for us. In addition, two adults decided it was a good time to have a continual conversation. Very annoying. Perhaps the staff should remind the audience at the beginning to keep conversation to a minimum during the performance. $9.50 each seemed a bit pricey but they do have a large historical facility to maintain.
Warm, interesting, very professional and convincing actor as TR. My granddaughter's teacher mentioned her knowledge of Teddy Roosevelt, months after our visit.
An excellent portrayal of Teddy from his childhood, through his first visits to the Badlands and Medora, to his presidency. The actor "was" Teddy. Most entertaining and informative.
If you didn't know much about Teddy Roosevelt, this 50 minute play will tell you in an entertaining way. After the play, you understand why he is one of the 4 presidents on Mt. Rushmore. He is responsible for 10% of all the national park land we have today.
The man who plays Teddy Roosevelt -Joe Wiegand- IS Teddy Roosevelt. His presentation of TR is engaging, informative and funny! I saw him at the Family Fun Center (in Medora ND), interacting with children (TR LOVED kids), and I saw his performance at the Old Town Hall Theater--you shouldn't miss this because he will introduce you to Teddy Roosevelt (no work on your part) like you'd really met our 26th President.
We're not big history buffs, but my wife and I really enjoyed getting to know Teddy and his wife. We walked away with a new appreciation of his accomplishments, humor, and general attitude toward life -- very inspiring! Cost of the show was only $9.50, and it was well worth it.
You feel that you have just spent an hour and a half with Theodore Roosevelt. Dressed and acting in character tells the story of his life. Keeping in character answers questions in the end. His knowledge of Roosevelt is phenomenal! Very entertaining as well as educational. Highly recommend.
This one man show in the old theater feels like an evening with the President when he tells you the story of his life and why he left NY and the East coast to settle in Medora, ND. He admits to coming West as a tenderfoot and evolving into a cowboy rough rider. The impersonation is so lifelike you will know you spent your admission fee well, and learned a great deal of history at the same time.
This was my three-year-old and I's first time seeing Joe Wiegand's performance as Teddy Roosevelt, my 10-year-old's second time, and my mother-in-law's third. We all loved it! My MIL says it changes a little bit each time and "Teddy" definitely plays to his audience. It was a long show for my little one, but she was rewarded in the end by receiving the Teddy Bear for the youngest audience member. When "Teddy" found out her name was Eleanor we then learned that Teddy and Eleanor Roosevelt were cousins, and that she didn't have to change her surname when she married FDR. Wiegand is a very sharp man and does a fantastic and realistic impersonation. We attended many attractions around Medora and this was my favorite! You won't be sorry!
