We had the beaches to ourselves. The views are breath taking. The area is very well maintained and the trails are easy to walk.
The headlands is a state reserve near the town of Mendocino. It has excellent walking trails and specular views. You will need to keep track of where you are you will become lost in its beauty.
I walk the headlands almost everyday and never tire of the view. If you are visiting Mendocino and do not have much time to spare walking or driving the headlands (with a stop or two) is the one thing I would recommend you do. You will see magnificent ocean vistas, oftentimes hear sea lions and see a large variety of birds and, if the weather is decent, the flashing light of the Point Cabrillo Light Station to the North. The North Coast of California magnificently displayed in a short walk or drive, how perfect is that...
This park consists of a narrow trail bordering a scenic rocky headland. It would probably take about a mile to walk the entire trail. It starts from behind the visitors center. It is very enjoyable to sit and get lost in the serenity although it was quite windy while we were there. There was a blowhole and a crater like opening. I only walked half of it.
The park has great views of the coast and some abandoned buildings that are all great subjects for a photographer.
Across from Main st. go an enjoy, wander or just sit an have a visual experience.Wonderful place .Any time of year. Been there rain or shine. Hiking or just sitting an taking in it all.there are benchs all threw the park to sit.
This area is away from the maddening crowd so relaxed and love the ocean views as well as the short hikes will return soon
Great for picture-taking and enjoying the view of the coastline. Park is clean and seemed well maintained.
Mendocino Headlands State Park is absolutely beautiful! There is a trail that you can follow along the coast while admiring the beauty of the ocean. Places like these are typically swarming with visitors. However, when I visited in November, there were only a handful of people walking along the trail. I'm not sure if I just happened to visit on a good day. Either way, I enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. As you walk along the trail you see different rock formations, natural bridges, a few divers, and ocean life. The views all along the coast are just simply stunning. There is no cost to park, and there are several restaurants within walking distance so it's easy to grab a bite to eat afterwards. Mendocino headlands and the surrounding area is such a charming little place that it's a place I know I'll visit from time to time.
Take a walk along this gorgeous coastline, paths are clearly marked and accessible. Watch the waves just pound the rocks and see the birds flying effortlessly above. Bring a picnic and enjoy this spectacular coastline!
