A great ace to swim, there was a festival I the park, but bring your own food. There was a small restroom and out shower to rinse off, which was nice. We walked to the Light house. Had a great time.
beach was nice, parking was close to beach and was pretty clean.real nice fine sand .. kids enjoyed it.
This beach gives the ocean experience without the long drive to the coast. The sand was nice and you get the waves coming in just like at the ocean. The water was warm and for the most part it was a gradual walk out into the water with an exception or two where there would be a spot that had a big dropoff not too far from the shore. We went to the lighthouse and walked from there, but I would have paid the $7. to park if need be, as you can park up close by the water. There was also a public bathouse that appeared to be well kept.
This was an unexpected highlight of our visit to Michigan City. To be honest we stopped here to visit Blue Chip casino but we had our two kids along and had to find something fun for them as well. The park has a lot to offer. The beach is beautiful, the water warm and inviting. The park is long and walkable with some nice playsets for the kids. There is a zoo right across from the park too.The parking fee is a little steep, but well worth it for all the park has to offer.
Enjoyed walking out on the Pier. It's a beautiful city park right on Lake Michigan. I would not recommend going barefoot in the sand though as I saw some sharp, broken glass. More than I would have expected so wear shoes.

My husband and I visited here recently. We loved spending time at the beach! The sand was great; there weren't too many rocks. The water was warmish (tolerable to get in). If I have any warning, it's that you have to walk a long way to get to the beach, so it might not be conducive to older people.
What a pretty park, the sand the water the lighthouse. Pull up a beach blanket and say Ahhhhhh!!Loved the dunes.
We showed up at Washington Park to see the lighthouse, and really lucked out! There was a Labor Day celebration going on- we got funnel cakes, live music AND a lighthouse! We paid $7 to get into the park, and it was money well spent. We walked out to the lighthouse for a fantastic view of the lake, enjoyed the beach, and took our time just people watching, eating deep fried food and listening to the live entertainment they had. It was a great way to spend our Saturday afternoon.
Stop after lunch on Monday, September 29th. Nothing much going on. It was well kept. It was appropriate for us to be able to socialize a bit before returning home.
