Lake Mineral wells State park is a good day trip from The Dallas Texas area. This state park has a 12-15 mile trail (some paved) that was built where the old railroad use to run. This makes for a good work out. If you are into rock climbing then you will love the cliffs at the state park, so bring your gear. They have several nature trails as well for hiking and camping. This park also has a store on site that carries all your basic essentials. The lake has a beach and canoe rentals or you can bring your own. The only reason i rated this state park so low was for the fact that the lake is only half full right now due to the lack of rainfall in the area.
We camped in a travel trailer for one night during travel. The park is easy to find off I-20 and is a very large park with some sites offering a beautiful view of the lake. The park is clean and in a natural setting. The friendly staff told us we might see some eagles during our visit, but we did not... . however there were a lot of deer roaming the grounds. Rest rooms/shower house was old but very clean. Would be a great place to stay and enjoy for a longer period!
Our Indian Princess nation camped at Lake Mineral Wells State Park the weekend of 28 Feb - 2 Mar 2014. The park was great, as usual. The girls really like the rock formations in the campsites. My only complaint is that a lot of the parking pads at the sites are long and narrow, which makes it difficult when trying to park several vehicles at one site. The park has done what they can to address this by providing parking areas relatively nearby, but it's enough of an inconvenience that I can't rate the park "Excellent."
Very nice campground. They keep the MANY restrooms well cleaned. In fact the whole park is near spotless- I'm not sure I found trash on the ground anywhere. Even zero cigarette butts at our site. Loved it! I took my wife camping here for the first time since we've been married (17 years). It was a good first camping experience for her. My ONLY beef is that no one in Mineral Wells (at least we could find) sells wood except the park store. $7 for a small bundle is pretty steep. TAKE WOOD WITH YOU!
We've visited here several times. This park has a lot of water view camping spots and good fishing. We love to walk around as well. There's lots to see in the way of wildlife, trees, and mountains. It is also close to Ft. Worth if you want to take a short day trip.
Surrounding a pretty lake, this park is located just outside of Mineral Wells. A concession stand offers paddle boat rentals as well as beverrage and snacks. Small swimming area. Rock climbing area as well as lots of trails to hike or ride
Spent the weekend at Lake Mineral SP and it was an excellent time. Staff very friendly, rest rooms clean, nice showers, and nice camping sites. Saturday morning was a nature hike with a ranger - good time, very instructive. Like every where else in Texas the lake is down but we aren't boaters so that didn't matter. Has a racoon visitor almost as soon as we set up in site 51 in Live Oak campground. Would recommend this state park. Sure hope Texas gets some substantial rainfall soon.
We've been going to this park for several years now. The park is always clean (bathrooms are clean - an important element for me) and the rangers nice. We've hiked the trails, listened to the evening ranger presentations, biked the rails-to-trail route, biked into Mineral Wells, swam in the lake (low water this summer but hopefully the rains have helped), kayaked, watched rock climbers (that is on our list to do), and more. It is a spot that we will continue to visit.Mineral Wells is also worth a visit. Check out the historic buildings and the historic Crazy Water mineral water store.Family friendly.
The Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway is a wonderful place to visit! Whether you are into hiking, repelling, canoeing, fishing, or just want inexpensive entertainment and fun for the whole family, Lake Mineral Wells is the place! It is only 45 miles west of Fort Worth, and is the ultimate outdoor escape from the hustle and bustle of city life!
What can I say. I learned to rock climb here with a dear friend. I later met my future husband here while we were both rock climbing. We live in Weatherford now and my parents will drive right past us from Euless to camp in one of the quaint cabins on the lake. This is a gorgeous place. Hiking, camping, rock climbing or just enjoying the scenery are the things you can enjoy here.
