Well worth the visit! Lovely gardens and interiors that will catch your imagination and bring history to life. What a fantastic collection of American Decorative Arts. Very interesting tours available. There is a great visitor center too. Does require walking.Closed on Mondays.
This place is great! When we almost got in, there wasn't any parking left but the front guy told us to park near the softball field. There was a shuttle that took us to the nature center. Also they had a tree planting demonstration there and lots of arts and crafts for children. we had a wonderful time there. The weather was beautiful. Highly recommend this place.
As a Houstonian for many years, this is a place I go back to visit at least once a year. Its especially gorgeous in late March and early April when azaleas, bridal wreath and wisteria are blooming in the gardens. The gardens are lovely all year but especially at that time. The house can be toured and has many lovely antiques. It a great place to take out of town guest who enjoy home decor and gardens. The gardens can be entered without charge. Nice place to take your lunch in spring and fall.
A real Houston treasure. Ima Hoggs house and garden are beautiful. The garden is even better in the Spring but a treat any time
I love this place! I bring all my friends and family here when they come to town. In the spring is the best time to visit because the gardens are in bloom. Make sure to make an appointment to your the house.
We visited the collection and gardens while our family was in town. The attraction is nestled between memorial park and Allen parkway. The house has been preserved beautifully. It took us around 30 minutes to tour the house which is open to the public on the 1st floor. Our visit to the house could have been enhanced by more details being provided on the pieces that we were viewing and some more pertinent historical information about the previous owners. The gardens are perfectly manicured and maintained. We spent an additional half an hour walking round and admiring them. Well worth a visit if you have visitors from out if town or you have a spare afternoon.
It is worth going to as a destination because it is so pretty but beware of a few things before you go. Currently the bridge to get to the gardens is closed so you have to stop at the visitors center first for your tickets and then drive around to the temporary entrance. Then the entrance fee to the gardens, which was very reasonable only $5, was only for the gardens not for the house tour (also not expained) so we found it frustrating. We didn't drive back around to get the tickets to tour the house. I think if I read a review like this it would be helpful to know that you have to drive to the visitors center buy the tickets to the gardens AND the house tour and then drive over to the alternate entrance while they fix the bridge.Besides the staff problems they have the gardens are maintained beautifully and are worth seeing and it is a lovely oasis right in the heart of downtown.
Bayou Bend and the gardens are beyond lovely. The docents do a great job of enhancing one's viewing pleasure in the house.
The grounds and gardens are absolutely beautiful. The Collection is impressive. The history of the home and time period is interesting. Worthwhile visit!
This is such a beautiful home and is made even more special by the amazing grounds. My ladies organization went as a group and sauntered through the beeathtakingly beautiful grounds for several hours. Highly recommend this as a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Houston
