The museum's displays are most interesting reflecting pre and post depression America. I had never heard of John Foshay and now I want to learn more.
If you want to have a great view of Minneapolis, visit Forshay Tower deck. There is also a bar called Prohibition that is very fancy and you can have some drinks at night.
The W hotel has made the downstairs interior looking like a hip club, but I prefer the top of the tower with its history and view of the city.
Don't miss it! The view is fantastic! Lots of nooks and cranny's to sit in. Don't forget to walk all around the entire bar. A different view with every step!
You feel like a VIP drinking up there. The history lesson is cool as well, but with so many people to fit up there, it's included that you feel part of something exclusive.
Good view of the city in a cool old building. Have some drinks in the bar, maybe dinner at Manny's. May as well make your way up if you are nearby.
The Foshay Tower was and is a living legend -- the most notable Art Deco architecture in Minneapolis. Unlike many historic buildings in this city, the restoration of this historic treasure was not the typical "gut interior, preserve exterior." Between the magnificent lobby, and observation deck at the pinnacle, deco details delight the visitor. Within the floors of this pyramid, the former offices have been transformed into hotel rooms, featuring complimentary design, and fantastic views. If one visits this hotel ("W") during the holiday season, the building attracts a suave and glamor crowd -- rivaling a "Roaring Twenties." And on New Year's eve, resident ghosts might smile at the hedonistic swirl and swagger, of the guests -- for the Forshay Tower was completed at the height of the decade, just months before the Market crashed, into the Great Depression.
There is a little museum up at the top of this tower, with much of its history detailed there. In addition, there is an observation area outside where you can look out over much of the city and walk all around near the top of the building. Doesn't cost terribly much.
Have been here time after time. 1st. The observation deck is great if you want amazing views of the city and beyond . Also the prohibition bar that's located towards the top of the tower , is a ritzy nice place to get a drink at night and view the lights of downtown, the bar stretches all four sides of the tower so you don't miss anything!
The Foshay Tower is one of my favorite buildings in MN. It is now a hotel but there is a museum up at the top, as well as an observation deck so that you can have a look at the city.
