Part of a day tour in Modena, we spent some time in the Palazzo - it has some great old world charm and is definitely worth a look-see if you're in the area. Some great food nearby too!
The Palazzo is now a training academy for both military and carabinieri. Though you can only get into the entrance area behind the main gates, it is worth going. The marble walls are inscribed with the names of Italians from all over the country who have served in the various wars over the last century. It was humbling and inspirational to read through them.
The Palazzo Ducale occupies an important place in the city's landscape. Its construction and the history behind it as the Estense Palace are impressive. Nowadays it hosts the Military Academy and there is a Military Museum inside, with several war "instruments" and a memorial, that could be visited in a festive day (Nov.4th)
This is the most impressive old building in Town. Now it hosts the Italian Military Academy, so to visit it you must book a slot and show some picture ID. But the visit worths all the rassle, it's an amazing Palace, the external walls in bricks, interior is lavish!!For sure a must see monument in Modena.
Big, Very grand 27 rooms open to the public but like most places closes for lunch. One of the apartments has the military academy museum within.
