This is a children's zoo. It is quaint, but hardly a major attraction. Apparently I have to say what I liked and did not like. Okay, again I felt like it was a quaint zoo. The animals looked well taken care of, but the habitats were old and showed it.
Having one of the best zoos in the world in my home town makes it difficult to say too much. Nice grounds and if you have never been to a zoo then it is ok. Good to keep children amused.
A zoo that is more that 100 years old. They have a web-page where you can read the story of the zoo. Plenty of nice alleys, tree- and stone-figures. One of the best places to make open-air photo-sessions in Nikolaev.
Mykolaiv Zoo has a great history and locals boasts pretty much about it. It had 2 famous elephants, 1 of them died and the other is transported somewhere else i guess, as far as I understood with little Russian i have.It is large with a wide range of species, but there are many better zoos in other countries around. Still, safe to say that it is the best zoo of Ukraine.
This zoo has some wonderful and a beautiful park like grounds. An easy and enjoyable day. A large variety of animals are present and well maintained. While we could all hope for animals living in their natural habitat, this zoo presents the species well and is one of the best I have seen in Eastern Europe. Not to be compared with other zoos in the Americas. It is a refreshing stop in a bustling city and highly unexpected for its quality and grounds.
Maybe a side note to previous reviewers, is that one shouldn't compare a Western European or U.S. zoo to an Eastern European zoo and have the same expectations, but in Ukranian context the Mykolayiv Zoo is a great zoological garden. The animals are obviously well fed and active, there is a big variety, and the staff seem to try hard to put the means they get to good use and improve the conditions for their animals, while making the the zoo an attractive place for visitors. I've been coming here almost every year for the last 10 years, always enjoyed it and I can honestly say that the zoo was improving with every visit (what in my opinion couldn't be said for the Kyiv Zoo, for example). So, if you visit Mykolayiv, you should definitely pay a visit to its Zoo, because, let's be honest, there are few other real touristic attractions, plus you'd be supporting the oldest zoological garden of the country - I'm pretty sure the 2 euro one pays for admission won't make you poorer, but could help the place to keep heading in the right direction ;)
In terms of variety of species the Zoo might be the best in Europe. However the conditions are awful. It is hard to enjoy watching animals and in the same time realize how miserable is their existence.
Perfect place to spend your time with family or with your partner. Cute animals, all is green, nice place to sit. Not expensive.
Not bad at all, you can spend half a day with your family walking among different animals but still you can find something you should see next time. However some reconstruction for the Zoo is more than welcome.
A lot of animals, also outside cages (called humans). The zoo itself is worth a visit, much better than the one in Dublin, even if here animals don't have much room where to move.It happened to see a woman entering the ostrich area and stealing an egg!!!!! Could not find anybody around to denounce that, plus no English speakers anyway. Sad, but it can be improved.
