This is wonderful little fort. The interpreters who work during the summer are knowledgeable and helpful. They've added more things to explore in recent years like a tiny village cottage. A great spot to see the cove, too!
The Lighthouse was great. The Museum which is owned by a local group was very well done. We sat and admired the coast for some time. There is a small fee to enter the area, but it is really a small fee. After climbing the lighthouse and viewing the lighthouse worker home, go sit on the rocks and be awed by the crashing waves.
Not much here but a picturesque view, if you are in the area I would definitely stop by, the cemetery is beautiful.
I keep coming here again and again. I stay at a rental house down the road or at the Pemaquid Inn. Take time to sit on the rocks and ledges and watch the powerful waves smash and spray! Be careful not to get too close, and watch those children carefully. Picnic tables, bathrooms and gift shop/restaurant on site. Linger here.
Great place to explore for an hour or two, admission is nominal, or go after 6 and get in free without building admittance. Great harbor views and a waterfront restaurant.
this place is very cool, they had people building mud houses with straw, the have a bunch of old site foundations, a little museum, and herb garden, it is very big lay out, the fort is still here as well, great for the ones that like history or forts, restaurant here as well, did not eat there myself.
Great views of the ocean and a beautiful lighthouse. Be sure to visit the art gallery as well. The fisherman's museum is fun. Be sure to wait for the OK to go to the top of the lighthouse.
This location offers a classic New England landscape, but beware the blustery winds and rogue waves that bring a biting cold to the cheek! The sparkling white Light might be shorter than you remember the next time you visit, but it will be long on memorable views. Monhegan looms large and sulky in the distance and a teal Atlantic stretches for miles and miles in the dazzling morning.... well worth the visit!
We attended the last evening Lantern tour of the site. It was a very enlightening introduction to the history of the site. The volunteers in costume brought a bit of that history to life. It was encouraging to see folks giving of their time and talent to maintain and respect our colonial history and heritage and the brave men and women behind it.
I had a little time after my trip to Monhegan Island so I stopped by as I can't resist a lighthouse! Small gate fee - no big deal - even though I wasn't staying more than an hour. Walked on the spectacular rocks (what a cool formation - looks like wood!), climbed the lighthouse and walked around the grounds a bit. Didn't have time to view the museum in the keeper's quarters, maybe next time. It was a stunning late summer day - wish I could have stayed longer!
