We rode the Jamestown & Newport Ferry around Narragansett Bay and observed the lighthouses, bridges and homes around the bay.
The town beach in Narragansett is truly wonderful. One area is reserved for surfers, other for swimmers. Great family fun atmosphere.
This is a great beach to just hang out with friends or family. It's also a good place to go surfing, especially for beginners. Locals' get a discount rate and visitors have to pay to get on the beach. Great place to go in the offseason to walk along the beach and let your dog run free.
Unlike most of the reviews here, our visit to Narragansett was in mid-October - after tourist season and the surprising fee-based entry. On a crystal-clear Wednesday afternoon, we strolled along Ocean Drive, beneath The Towers (the iconic sturdy stone archway and the last standing remains of the former Pier Casino) and along the almost vacant stretch of ivory beach. We watched the birds scurry along the lightly breaking surf and enjoyed the salty sea breezes. Very pretty!A few days later (a Monday) I drove down from where we were staying (East Greenwich) to the beach and was given a tremendous gift: an utterly breathtaking sunrise. Gold and rose shimmered on the cloud canopy for a few fleeting minutes. What a scene, such serenity. It was crisp and chilly, so only me and a couple dozen other early risers were there to witness. I could not have asked for a better memory from our visit to Rhode Island.
Like this beach, location, how well kept up - not so much a fan of distance from parking lot to the beach
It was a beautiful beach that we spent the day at watching our son and all the other children surfing. We even got our kite up. Perfect beach day.
Narragansett Beach is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. For locals it becomes a place of social gathering in the offseason, where we can admire one of our town's best features, while visiting with neighbors and friends...and sometimes their dogs as well.
They have beginner waves for surfers. Harder sand. Clean ocean water. Don't bring alcohol into the beach.
Town beach is lovely for a walk. Nice, clean white sand. Some people out surfing but the waves were pathetic. The Towers nearby make this a very picturesque area for a stroll. Plenty of parking and green space.
Some of the best times of the summer are as it is beginning or coming to an end. This year's vacation caught the end of the summer but not the waves. The night was perfect and so were the waves. People walking in the sand, sitting on the beach or trying to catch the last wave made it worth a time to remember.
