Gore moubtain can't be beat for intermediate, advanced and expert skiers and riders. It's got the best trees in the East (No kidding. It even beats Jay and Smuggs) but you will have to ask locals and duck a few ropes since the moubtain still has an old-school off-piste policy. There is a great selection on long crusiers at the bottom and black diamonds at the top. Since development is subsidized buy the State of New York and marketing is practically nonexistent, there are modern-fast lifts with virtually no one on them. The same goes for the trails. If freestyle is your thing. Avoid Gore. Period. There is no half pipe, although they claim that the 'feature' at the very distant Ski Bowl is a half pipe. There are no progression parks and the main park is old-school, lacks flow, is unsafe and the design seems to be arbitrarily changed from week to week. Gore is not a great place for beginners since there is big gap from never-ever to intermediate terrain. There is no easy-on, easy-off lift for those beginners on day 2-4. You can, however, take a bus to the Ski a Bowl for a better lift but there is no Snowsports School there. There is no après ski. Literally, the place closes at six when the plug is pulled on the music in the bar. By six-fifteen the parking lot is empty. The bottom line:If you like to ski, ski, ski or ride, ride, ride, there is no better moubtain in the East. You will spend less time in line and more time on the snow here than anywhere else. Plus, the level of skier/rider is better here than at more southern mountains or highly marketed places like Okemo. This not only makes for a better and safer experience, but also better snow since its not scraped off by a thousand snowplowers and turboleafers. If freestyle is your thing, any sizeable mountain will be a better choice. If you are looking for solid beginner terrain, park at the Ski Bowl (after taking your never-ever lesson at the main mountain).Oh, one last thing. By attraction/resort standards, Gore Moubtain's customer service is poor/very poor. I can't count the number of times I've heard employees be rude to guests. Refunds and exchanges should be avoided unless you are extremely patient and persistent. Do not get injured or you may get a second wave of pain when you are scolded by the nurse who runs first aid. Seriously, I saw her chew out several people, including a guy that was taken down by a fellow skier.
Ski school for the kids over Valentines weekend, and they loved it...Ray is the best snowboard instructor my 5 year old cant stop talking about it.. Great mountain and thank god for the Gondola, it was -20 both days we skied - Great all around mountain and great staff, Thanks Gore
Gore MT. in north creek NY is a gem of a ski area. the trail layout makes the whole mountain available to intermediate to advanced skiers , beginners can ski about 80% of the area. the gondola provides access to a 4.5 mile cruiser that is great for all levels . The view north towards Mt. Marcy from the summit are not to be missed . The changing areas leave a bit to be desired . The pub has a good range of micro brews and a nice ambience.
We went to gore for the holiday weekend and skied only 2 days due to the cold and wind. It was cold on our first day but not too windy but it was sunny so our -2 to high of 6 degrees was not too bad. We were warm enough in our layers. Our 2nd day was in the teens and felt a little colder because it was cloudy and snowing all day (light snow). The conditions were awesome. The third day was much colder and windy. -12 in the morning and don't think it got much warmer. Kids went sledding and in the pool. All in all we had a great time. The trails were great. A nice mountain. The gondola line never seemed long at all.
Thanks for visiting us and I am so excited to read about your lesson with Jerry! He's at the mountain every day and really knows his stuff, in addition to being an all-around terrific person. Please return soon- From Gore
My ski buddy and I had to cancel our yearly Killington weekend due to injury. I called a cousin in Albany and we went to Gore. It was my first trip to Gore. I loved it. We had good conditions, it was a busy Saturday and we had to park way out on the access road and I was expecting one big traffic jam. Turns out Gore is a lot bigger than I thought it was gonna be, lift lines were tolerable to non existent, and the density of skiers on the trails was never an issue. But what I like most was the variety of the terrain and the glades. Very pleasantly surprised... Wow. I love to ski trees and Gore has a plethora. Snow was a little thin in places, but that is always to be expected in eastern glades. Fantastic long cruisers, some gnarly steeps and all were well laid, very little traversing. As much as I love Killington, Gore is definitely in the same league, and there were things at Gore I liked better. I will be back.
Thank you so much for visiting us! We are sorry very about the inconvenience with the promotion your hotel was offering- we will check into that for sure. So glad you explored our vast resort- we offer the most skiing in New York State. We appreciate your feedback and we look forward to seeing you again!
Signed teen age son up for private lesson. Instructor advised me to meet back at ski school base an hour later. An hour and twenty minutes later began to worry if something happened. I attempted to text him and phone did not work. Assumed phone broke so went to the ski school desk and asked if they could check for the instructor, as son was long overdue and not responsive to texts. The representative said there is no cell service in most areas! I expressed surprise that there would be no service in a ski school building, at the least. Representative replied "we wish we had it too but are used to it" . Located son via searching the mountain base and nearby areas. There are plenty of ski areas with cell phone service, will not be back to Gore. Rated a 3 as the mountain itself was icey but otherwise fine
Thanks so much John- "Fun & Friendly" is just the way we'd describe Gore as well. We appreciate you taking the time to review and are so happy you visited. Be sure to explore the glades and our double-diamond steeps which include "The Rumor"- there's plenty of challenge for experts to enjoy!
Skiing is great. Gondola and high speed lift get you up the mountain fast. Too bad there isn't decent accommodations nearby.
