Children 7 and older enjoy the glass demo. Age 4 lose interest after and hour. Adults enjoy the entire show.
The improvements in the galleries were well worth the wait. The museum's extraordinary glass collection is now displayed in a manner befitting it's importance. There is now a nicer flow throughout. If you haven't visited yet, you must add this to your wishlist.
The museum is great but what we love if the glass studio. There is always something going on. Watching glass being blown right before your eyes is spectacular. Not only is it free it's kid friendly.
This a great museum. It is famous for its collection of glass. However, I would also recommend the paintings which range from medieval to modern. What is really nice is that the curators have included explanations of the major trends in art for each period. This is really great if you have children with you.
I had not done my homework and I really did not know what to expect at my visit to the Chrysler Museum of Art. I was blown away and actually had to stop and save more for another visit. What is really interesting about this museum is that it is so well curated and it is clear that the exhibitions that I saw had a plan and a vision - it wasn't just about the stars of art history, it was more about seeing and learning about art and artists. So no you do not go here to see 10 great Rembrandt's or Van Gogh's. It is not that kind of museum - you DO go here to see many period artists - perhaps not as famous but amazingly talented and important in their own right and to see their work in context. So to me this museum is really about context and not about glamour artists - and to do that you need a collector and collection that had a vision which was about a deeper appreciation of art and its history. This is an excellent museum and a must see.
Love to wander through the exhibits. Especially the Egyptian Relics and the Far eastern displays. Fun gift shop!
This is the place to visit if you have an hour or six hours to fill your eyes and mind with Art. Free and easy to walk through. You can get close to some of the most wonderful art ever created. It spans the whole of human existence. This is a place you just can't hope to cover in just one day. I look forward to returning soon. The parking lots fills up quickly so plan on parking a couple of blocks away, unless you get there early.
We got to the museum with just an hour or so before closing so we had to book!My main interest is late 19th and early 20th century art .. so we headed right to those salons. They have some nice examples of painting from Europe (Picasso, Braque, etc). They also have a nice assortment of marble statues (American).Although I can respect the older pieces they own, they were not my favorites. If you like art at all, you will not be wasting your time here (as I have done at other museums before).
The variety of the art is outstanding for a city this size. It is a great place to spend a few hours! You cannot go wrong with a trip to the Chrysler Museum!
Have visited this museum many times pre-and post-renovation in 2014. The glass collection, which is exceptional is now very nicely displayed. The glass studio which holds daily demonstrations is very informative and well worth the trip across the street. The museum itself is nicely balanced between painting and sculpture. There is no admission cost so makes it easy to visit multiple times to really see everything. the staff is gracious and enthusiastic. Also, the restaurant, albeit pricey, has very good food.
