Beautiful camp grounds. Great bike and hiking paved lanes. Clean. Largest man made lake in Iowa. Lots of different kinds of fish. Nice place to just go for a walk.
This lake is monstorous! A huge overlook of the lake is quite exhilarating and refreshing. A great place to take a bunch of friends and/or family fishing, boating, sunbathing, and other water sports. Take a drive around this lake and visit some of the boat houses. A pretty lake that takes you out of the city and clears the senses.
My wife and I camped last summer at Lake Red Rock. You will have to look hard to find a cleaner and better place to camp. Very clean and comfortable. Also went to the Lake to watch Eagles in the month of January.
During the Knoxville Nationals this year, we all headed over to the lake to enjoy some sand volleyball on a Monday morning. Sand courts are very, very nice. On Thursday morning three of us decided to get our kayaks and watch the sunrise. There was not a soul out at that time except us and the wildlife, love the peacefulness early in the morning.
Stayed at Lake Red Rock for a night. Rented a cabin at Horn's Ferry Hideaway. Two cabins tucked in a wooded area near Ivan's Campground. It was wonderful! Peaceful, well-appointed cabin stocked with everything you need. Access to the great bike trail around the river/lake. Close to hiking. It was the perfect getaway. Horn's Ferry isn't on Trip Advisor so you'll have to do a web search for it. Don't miss out!
The grounds were well groomed, with parking lot that was close along with accessibility for handicapped.
Eagle's, blue birds, wood ducks, owls just to name a few. Great views. Clean camp ground. Wonderful time at the A - liners camping rally this weekend. A good time was had by all. Great new showers.
I really like the campground. Was going to try and stay at Howell station but it said it was full. Make sure you make reservations for this spot ahead of time. It was pretty. What you may not know is around Red Rock Lake there are 5 campsites. We stayed at the one closest to the beach and dam. Loved it. Very wooded and pretty good space. Lots of trails for walking or biking. We stayed 3 days and 2 nites. $18 per nite. I agree with the one review about a central dumpster. Could not find a garbage can anywhere! Lol. I think anyone would enjoy camping here. Especially if you like to boat or fish.
There are lots of great parks around Lake Red Rock. We gave many a try as we fished. We had very spotty luck with shore fishing. We rented a pontoon, but the weather was bad that day and it was cancelled. It looked like shore fishing was good but busy below the dam. We would take a boat if we go back. There were boat ramps every few miles around the whole lake.
I loved this area it was so quiet and peaceful and the dam was terrific to see. Not too many people. Some were fishing.
