Always a good time. Shows are well written and funny. Have attended twice on New Years Eve and it was a great time with an awesome barbecue dinner. Even had season tickets one year.
Last night a group of us went on opening night. A cute play, lots of laughs. Very entertaining. The food & popcorn were good as always. A small crowd but it was a Thursday night.
My wife and I visited the Melodrama last night for their Christmas Extravaganza and had a great time. The show was in three acts: A Christmas Carol, Fractured fairy tale and finally a Vaudeville review. It was a great show. The actors were talented and engaged. They seemed to be having as good a time as the audience. The fractured fairy tale was hilarious. Little Red Riding hood and her blackberry stole the show. She has the teenage "eye rolls" down pat.The Vaudeville review featured the company great voices and old stand-bys from SNL. When the ticket cost is considered ($24) this has to be the best price to value option around.
I grew up down the street an have seen it all. I've participated in the summer camp, I've gotten to know the actors and staff, I've seen a great many shows and even watched as the building itself has adapted and changed with the times. This place is easily the home of the best live theater on the Central Coast of California. An intimate setting with the actors bringing the audience participation into the shows makes this a unique experience fun and entertaining for everyone. From grandchild to grandparent this attraction is for everyone. Take my word for it and go!
We visited the GAM&V many years ago and returned recently when we were vacationing in the area. The show is still excellent with talented and dedicated performers. You can order your tickets online to save some time the evening of the performance. Arrive at 6:30 to allow enough time to order your food and drink before the line gets too long. We sat in the table section which had padded chairs, whereas the bleacher section has hard wooden benches and is further away from the stage. We thought the show was a bit too long, over 2 1/2 hours...could have skipped asking about birthdays and anniversaries, which took 30 minutes. Wouldn't recommend this for young children under 10, unless it is a show they can relate to because of the shows's length. There were two intermissions to allow time for restroom visits and going back to the snack bar.
We have been attending the GAM each time we visit the Central Coast and have never had a bad or even a mediocre time. The plays are well written, produced, directed and acted out by a very entertaining staff. The only thing I don't like is that visitors to the area must pay a surcharge for booking their tickets ahead of time by phone or internet or they must wait until their arrival on the coast to purchase the tickets from the box office. The locals really have all the luck.
the Chrismas show is incredible- the staff is so talented and fun! every show and performance is right on and perfect. This is the best place to go with friends, family, kids and adults.
They put on a great show. We got our tickets a few days before the show & had great seats, but it was a full house. The snack bar is reasonably priced & the actors & actresses were in there serving & singing. Looking forward to going back!
We attended over the Christmas holiday. The show was outstanding, and vastly exceeded our expectations. The presentation was a mix of vaudeville type skits (but very family friendly) and the classic Christmas Carol. There are no bones to pick. If you are in the area, plan to attend.
I wasn't impressed with this show. Maybe it was me, but not many people around me were laughing. I'm in my sixties and maybe I was too young to enjoy it??? or maybe it was that perticular show that wasn't that funny???
