This company has it all. A stellar staff and a great attitude toward rafting in general. The people here are proud and deserve to be. My entire experience over the past half decade with these folks has been well worth the money. I know the owner to be a fair man and just as fair to his people. This company deserves to be number 1 without a shadow of a doubt. OTP has it all, no other company can compare.
very nice little store. the staff is always friendly and the ice cream is amazing. i stop here on every trip to i make to ohiopyle
My wife, son (11) and I along with several friends had a terrific experience on the lower river. I have a lot of canoeing experience but have gone white water rafting only a couple times, so we opted for the guide assist approach (a guide was not in the boat). I appreciated their focus on safety while allowing a good amount of independence in the line I chose to run. Our boat flipped on Dimple, probably the most memorable location on the lower river to take a swim. By the time I surfaced for air, a guide was already in our boat and in one pull hauled both my son and me in -- where the guide came from and how he so quickly got into our boat is a total mystery but was I glad he was there!!! Lunch was chaotic but fine. The jump from a 15' rock 4/5 of the way down the river was a hoot and to me demonstrated the independence OTP allows - I like their style!Cooperation and taking direction as a family was a fun experience. In the beginning everyone attempted to steer (regardless of position in the boat) and had an opinion on the line to run; toward the end of the day we found the right balance of input and taking direction. Highly recommended for any 'team'!
It was one of those days when you just want to go out there and have fun. My GF and I were grouped with a great family for the day. We hit the river at the scheduled time and the crew was amazing. We were at the lower yough. The guide said its one wont the most popular rivers on the east coast. We definitely had a great time. I would definitely recommend Ohiopyle Trading Post and am planning to do it one more time this season. I'd agree to other reviewers. Awesome guides, well maintained equipment and a DIY sandwich :) Couldn't get any better.
My family traveled the Upper Yough, and loved every minute of it! This company takes care of their customers with pride. Our guide was top notch. He knew the technical aspects of the river for guiding our raft, and had a wonderfully engaging personality. I fell out of the raft on the 1st Class V rapid, and he pulled me up into the raft like it was nothing. I felt safe during the trip because of the quality and training of the staff. After that we all managed to remain in the raft, and were still begging for more rapids when our trip was complete. I traveled with my 61 year old mother, and she says she’s ready to go again!
When I called ahead to make the reservation, I told the associate that my daughter and I had never white water rafted and I wanted to know if we should get a guide (an extra $20 per person) or not. They replied that it was not that difficult and there would be guides in the water directing you. The problem is, that assumes that all of the people in your raft know how to control the boat. Trust me, unless everyone in your boat has experience rafting and are able to follow the direction of one leader, get a guide. Otherwise you are in for 4plus hours of frustration. Spinning in circles, falling out of the raft, getting stuck on rocks, lots of bumps and bruises and not much fun. Also, we started into the water at about 11am and didn't stop for lunch until about 1:30pm. Lunch was in the woods with no facilities. Finally, please do something about the smell of those life jackets. Gross!
2011-Ideal, Great Guides if you dont have someone in your group that knows the river.... you may be on that river for 4-6 hours.....its a great journey through.....you pay attention to the briefing before the ride to know what areas to avoid and how to navigate the rapids.
A friend and I decided to try whitewater rafting for the first time, and we were very happy with our choice of Ohiopyle Trading Post for rafting. They were very professional and took safety seriously, and they made it a great time for everybody. If you have never tried this, I definitely recommend it.What to expect doing the Lower Yough: fairly long stretches where not much is going on separated by short bursts of lots of activity. Those short bursts are worth the wait, and the long stretches are also nice since it's a gorgeous area to float down the river. There is definitely a chance that you will get tossed out of the boat on one of the rapids, but you have on helmets, and nobody we saw got injured when they fell out of the boat. The guides were very good, and I definitely recommend OTP.
We had a blast on a lower river guided tour! There were about 16 of us traveling and no one had any experience with rafting, but we all wanted to have a great time. The middle river is too calm, and the upper river is too advanced. The lower tour was perfect. It had just enough excitement and the perfect amount of calm. My kids (18, 13, 11, and 9 years old) LOVED jumping into the water off the huge rock. Lunch was provided and plenty of laughs and memories. all of our guides were awesome. We will surely return.
Truly a highlight of our Staycation days! My husband I and have rafted many rivers from class 1to class 5 and are always looking for the total experience. The river always provides a satisfying experience. What turns it into awesome are the guides and good, well maintained equipment. OTP gave all of that! Reservations could not have been easier thanks to Courtney's professionalism. Guides were knowledgable, professional, and excited to share their awesome place in the world! We had 5 relatives with us. Ages 13 through 49. This was their first experience on whitewater and all reported they must go again! Thanks OPT!
