We came for two weeks in Oceanside without a car. The coaster allowed us to visit San diego, Encinitas and Carlsbad cheaply and easily with no stress. A great way to get around.
I had my doubts that I would like this but I must admit that I did enjoy the ride and have used this form of transportation regularly. It is very convenient and is quite timely.
Have been on this many times but never a review of the Coaster. It's the only way to go to San Diego and back and sure beats driving!! Great senior rate of $5.50 return. Lots of fun!! Big double stacked rail cars for a fantastic view.
What a wonderful surprise to see that you can avoid the horrible traffic on the freeways and take a fast, efficient, clean, and cheap train from Oceanside to San Diego! We loved it and have told many others about it too.Parking is free. Ticket purchase at the automatic dispenser is easy. Boarding is just a few steps away. The scenery is magnificent going down the coast. The hour on the train passed quickly.Public transit should be like this all over North America!
We discovered the Coaster more than ten years ago. It's one of the best things aboutbeing in the San Diego area. It's very inexpensive, especially for seniors and persons withdisabilities. The views along the way are awesome! There's the ocean, palm trees, cyclists and joggers as you meander along the coastline. Such a difference compared tofighting the traffic on Interstate 5. We've even used it to meet incoming guests at theairport. Sometimes, we hop on it to go to San Diego just for the fun of it. If you ride a bicycle, you can take it on board. It is a fabulous asset which most can afford.Everyone should give it a try.
This was my first time traveling on a regular train. You get a smooth ride, good sightseeing, and few stops. I liked it. It was kinda expensive for us.
We were in Southern California and took the Coaster from Oceanside to Old Town in San Diego...It was excellent....trains were right on time....the price was right...free parking at the station...the stop was great just walked through the tunnel right at the train stop....very scenic ride along the coast. Sure beats driving and trying to find a parking space...so cost efficient.
We joined the "Coaster" at Oceanside and it takes around an hour to get to San Diego. We got off the train at Old San Diego on one day and the Santa Fe Station in San Diego the second day. Parking in downtown San Diego is very difficult so going by the Coaster was a great idea for us. The coaches have an upper level and the views along the coast were excellent and passing through Carlsbad and the other villages was a nice experience. We qualified for the senior rate (just !) so the journey cost us $5.50 round trip each. It really is an excellent journey to San Diego and wonderful experience.
I ride the coaster to work in sorrento valley every work day. Beats driving, hands down. Thursdays is busiest, and any time during the fair going season. I won't go back to commuting by car. Even the most expensive pass is cost effective vs the cost of driving.
The Coaster is simply a great relaxing and inexpensive way to travel the southern coastline of California. I would highly recommend the Coaster for everyone but especially for those who do not want the hassle of the I(5). In less than an hour you can travel from Oceanside to Old Town San Diego.
