I went there by organized tour (60 s together with a boat) but you can get here by a bus or minivan. It is just 20 – 30 minutes. Get off at Penha, white church. You are like in the middle of jungle. The locals really surf on the fall you can do the same if you want to have your skull redesigned. The locals have really good technique I am sure you will find some to showing off. So just sit and have a great slide and splash into the natural cold water. Also be cautious with your belongings as I witnessed some theft here and at the nearby Tarzan waterfall where is also a bar to have some snack.
A 30 minute bus ride out of Paraty is this nice little natural attraction. A short walk through the forest gets you there and it's well worth the trip. A"waterfall" runs down a smooth rock face to form a natural waterslide, scary at first but great fun as you splash down into the pond at the bottom. Just don't wear white shorts as the bottom of them will turn a nice greenish brown colour after a few rides. A tip for those of you that wish to try the slide is to watch for a while before going. You could gain a lot of speed going down and the pond have a big boulder strategically placed to stop people from swooshing too far...If you get tired of sliding you can have a shower in one of the smaller waterfalls, splash around in the natural pools or dare yourself to jump from the 10 meter cliff into the water a little upstream. All great fun.If you feel hungry during your visit there's a restaurant on the far side of the stream. For the daring you cross on a bridge suspended by wires across, but for the faint of heart you can actually just walk across the stream. Food is reasonably priced and the fish we had was great. The service wasn't that great, but as we arrived to eat at the same time as a rather large group of people it could probably be better when they're not as busy. Foodwise it was good quality for money at least. In short I'd say that it's well worth taking the time for visiting this spot. The surroundings are stunning with the beautiful forest dotted with little waterfalls all around. Buses go past from Paraty at regular intervals and there's also these privately owned minibuses that runs as shuttles at any given time. Quite cheap as well. I recommend it to anyone, you won't regret it.
This was seriously amazing - we took a cab from the historical center to Cachoeria Toboga. Took us a few minutes to find the path leading there, but came upon a little trail and heard the water before we saw it. I was the only female there (go figure :)), but saw a bunch of teenage kids sliding and jumping into the water from the slide. My friend and I braved the slide and the locals guided us to the exact rocks to slide down. It was super fun! After some time with the slide and waterfalls, we followed the signs to Bar Tarzan, where we had to cross a rickety bridge over the river to the bar :) Had a few beers and some calamari to end off our adventure
A nice waterfall with a natural rock waterslide. Great moments of fun in a wonderful natural environment.
We took the local bus to the falls leaving from the bus station. They only run about every hour or hour and a half. Had we known about the more frequent local minibuses that run to the falls we would have asked where to get one from. They do not go from the bus station. The water slide was a lot of fun but you have to be careful as the rocks are slippy and we saw several people fall on their way to the start of the slide. After having slid down the rocks into the cool water pool at the bottom we made our way to the Tarzan cafe. Very pleasant . A nice place to enjoy a cool drink or have a snack lunch.
this place tighter with the tarzan cachoeira is a place for adventure. You may encounter same snakes so be aware of where to leave your bags, NOT NEAR A TREE WITH A HOLE .You can letteraly slide on the stone of this gentle waterfall and than plunge into the natural pool.further up you will find the tarzan spot with a tibetan bridge really ,unsteable but a lots of fun. there is as well a restaurant/bar to buy some refreshment or food.It is a MUST.
We cycled up to the waterfall and there is no getting around the fact it was hard... Really steep in parts but the cycle down was amazing. Downhill at speed for a long time, especially as there was very little traffic. The waterfall itself was nice, cold when cloudy and the beginning of the slide was really slow - you stopped in parts but the ending was good. Didn't eat at Tarzan but looked expensive...
We spent our last half-day in Paraty visiting this waterfall. It has 4 or 5 levels so it didn't feel crowded even though there were tours there. And even though we didn't do the natural slide, bc we were leaving that day and didn't care to get soaked, we enjoyed watching other people scream as they went down it. it looked like a lot of fun and I think we will do it if we get a chance to return to Paraty.
We took the local bus from Paraty, and had a fun afternoon. We went for a walk knowing there was a rock slide, but not exactly sure where. When we came across it there was just 2 guys ahead of us who we watched slide down, it looked fun so we tried and that was it we were hooked. We then had the whole place to ourselves, gradually a few more people arrived and wanted us to show them where to go down. Just as we were getting ready to leave 2 local lads arrived and went down the rock slide standing up- this was incredible, a real skill, they didn't play up to the crowd, but were obviously just enjoying themselves. Definitely worth a couple of hours visit.
Take the local bus but it only goes up there every 1.5 hours, so try to find the schedule for PENHA or there are mini vans that drive more frequently. Make sure to explore by the bar, there is a big rock jump and swimming pool!
