Got groupon for this sauna. Never actually liked saunas before, but this one is out of this world! Complete oasis. Complimentary parking. Great juices - one was included in the price. Tons of space to exlore. Tasty food in restaurant. Take a few pairs of socks - they are not allowing shoes inside.
This was a different experience and it was nice stepping out of my comfort zone. The place is very clean, spacious and comfortable. Now it seems100% Korean so there maybe some staff with little English speaking skills but that didn't bother me. I am thankful I went with two other friends otherwise I might have been overwhelmed. When we checked in we didn't get a good tour of the place or layout and that's the only negative I would say happened. We explored and learned. Being totally naked in the bath areas and how large/ open it was was interesting! Seeing the various rooms and sleep areas was also interesting. The restaurant/ food was very decent. But the best experience was the body scrub. It was the first time I ever had a total body treatment. I have had body scrubs before at top spas and it didn't include a mini facial or head massage! All this came as part of the 90 min treatment. I saw my girl grate the cucumber to make my facial mask! It was simply amazing! I was slightly embarrassed by the amount of stuff I saw scrubbed off my skin but after I wanted everyone to touch me and feel skin! I would do this treatment again because it's more than worth the money!
My friend and I visited King Spa yesterday. I had been there twice before and both times were simply awesome! My third visit did not disappoint! This establishment literally feels like a small resort getaway even if only for a few hours. The fact that they provide free shuttle van service to and from Manhattan and Flushing is also very convenient. As some of the other reviewers on here have said do try to get an early van as they fill up rather quickly. Then you will have to wait another two hours for the next one. This third visit happened on a Wednesday and experienced the amount of people heading over there as well. I know I've been out of the work force for a bit but I thought people had jobs to be at! In any event we arrived and enjoyed the hot saunas, the good food and the peaceful, relaxing ambiance. I did notice that the prices of the food have gone up quite a bit since my last visit! The frozen yogurt with fruit toppings was simply delicious and VERY filling. For $4.00 it is worth it! It held me over for most of my stay there. My friend and I happened to use a Groupon voucher for the first time and although we were grateful for the free juice included in the promotion we quickly realized services have changed quite a bit. The very first time we went we both signed up and received the wet massage. That time we were thoroughly scrubbed from head to toe, our hair was washed, they put fresh cucumber around our eyes and the entire process lasted about an hour and a half. We also happened to pay the discounted price via the e-coupon King Spa offers on their site. But this time my friend signed up for the very same service and only got 75 percent of that done which still isn't that bad. She was left a little disappointed since she was really looking forward to a good scrub down and more time. Turns out the entire process only lasted 45 minutes this time around. Although she did try to ask the employee if she can scrub her, the lady didn't seem to understand or pretended not to. Not sure, since I wasn't there. But my friend did view other women next to her getting the full treatment. It crossed our minds that the possibility that we used a Groupon voucher this time had something to do with the cutback in service. If it does I really think that's unfair. We may be paying a discounted rate but that only covers the admission, not the extra services they provide like massages, facials, etc. I do understand that as a business they may feel that they are losing out by accepting these vouchers but they also have to realize that the less we pay in admission the more that we the customers will be willing to pay extra for the other amenities they provide. When I first started going to King Spa three years ago they only charged $28 dollars and now it is $45. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic place and whether you use a Groupon voucher, an e-coupon from the King Spa site or pay the full price you will be more than happy you invested your time and money here. It really is a piece of paradise to escape from all the craziness going on across the Hudson River.
My wife took me here is a surprise. When we arrived there was a valet to park the car. We used a Groupon would save quite a bit of money. When you go upstairs and went to separate changing rooms. They provide you with locker room key and also provide you with an outfit to wear in the spa. It is very clean and there are multiple saunasto choose from. They are all coed. An interesting one was the cooling room after you've gone into one of the saunas. Most of the saunas seemed very similar to me. There were places to relax such as a gaming area where there is Chess and other games. There also is an area where you can use one of their computers. They also have a restaurant. The food at the restaurant was very good and reasonable. You charge the food to your bracelet and pay for it at the end. My wife had a very good time there but it's not a place I would routinely visit. If you someone that does not like walking around barefoot,I would suggest bringing socks or other footwear that is permissible. You were not allowed to walk around in flip-flops or shoes. They offer foot and neck massages. The majority of the clientele is Asian or Russian. There is no rush to get you out and you can spend as long as you want in there. They are open 24/7 365 days a year. It is not what I would call I full-service spa but if you like saunas, this is the place for you.
My family (wife and 2 daughters 22 and 25) love this place. It is mostly Asian but is welcoming to all. The staff is nice, the food is ok and the scrub and massage great. They have many saunas to chose from. People play the ancient game of GO. You have a segregated women floor and also one for men. You are required to go nude in those floors. The common area are shared and men are in white and women in pink. It is common to see 2 to 3 generations helping to scrub and clean each other. We like to meet for dinner after spending some relaxing time. This is a great place.
My first visit and I'm a fan of King Spa. So here's what to expect if you're a guy and have never been to this sort of place before. The clientele and predominately Asian and quite a few Russian so English is not the predominate language. This was fine with me. I did some talking but mostly experienced the spa quietly.3 Floors 1st Floor is the women's area. 2nd Floor is the "common" area with like 12 different saunas of vary makes and temperatures. Also game room and napping lounge with big lounge chairs. Try them all. 3rd Floor is Men ONLY this is nude area with lockers, showers, whirlpools, steam.- When you check in they're gonna send you up to the3rd floor (men) with a key on a wrist band. It has your locker number on it. You're gonna open the door upstairs and see a whole bunch of naked men. It's ok. - Take off your shoes!! AT THE DOOR or they'll yell at you Go to the locker number they assigned you and get naked. This will be awkward for for some at first and you may want to hide behind a towel. Get over it and you'll have a better time.First you must take a shower. There is also an adjacent area with a stool for washing you feet, legs, and shaving.- This is where you get to chose your own adventure. You can hang out in the men's area and soak in one of the 3 Jacuzzis, sit in the dry sauna or steam room. The idea is to get really hot, sweat and then cool down in one of the cold water pools or rinse off quick under the cold shower. Repeat. When you had enough of the nude experience it is time to go grab a shirt/shorts from the shelves and go downstairs to the common area. There you can chose from the many saunas or just sit in a comfy chair and take a nap while watching sport center or some Korean TV they have 4 or five of these rooms with large lounge chairs for relaxing or sleeping.. The also have computers available if you must log on to the outside world. The have a juice bar located but many of the saunas that is very good. It is right next to the Ice room which was so refreshing after leaving one of the many sauna I did not try the restaurant so can not rate it but it had many customers. Try it!! I will be return soon Groupon just posted discount coupons again. I know it will be even more enjoyable the next time, now that I know what to expect.
King Spa was a good place to ditch my late-winter blues along with my clothes. The unisex men’s bath has four tubs of various temperatures, one wet sauna, one dry sauna and several stand-up and sit-down showers. You definitely have to be comfortable with seeing naked and going naked. It's a meagre substitute against actual outside naturism but it's better than staying home and turning up the heat during a Northeast winter. I did check out the co-ed area and I cannot recommend the spa on those grounds. You must wear a set of shorts and a shirt that King Spa provides You subsequently fill your textiles with sweat as you move from sauna to sauna. Very gross. Top freedom is not allowed in the co-ed area and that applies to men and women. (I don't know if New Jersey has top-free equality but that is moot at this establishment.)My recommendation to nudists is to go to King Spa in the winter while you pine for warmer days. All stars I award an establishment are based upon this system:* * * * * means coed, non-sexual nudity is allowed* * * * means unisex, non-sexual; nudity is allowed* * * means you can probably get away with being naked but it is not legally allowed* * means get naked at your own risk, you might get arrested* means the place advertises as nudist but allows sexual nudity and/or swinging
This facility in Palisades Park is what you would call a Jjimjiibang or traditional bathouse. Having said this there are some points that you should be aware of before deciding to take advantage of a great cultural experience.Firstly, as a European I have always found the American ambivalence not to say horror of nudity rather comical. I almost feel like putting the warning that used to appear on old maps of 'here there be dragons' on the review - Here there will be nudity! A number of sites other than this one which have carried review have carried this in bold caps! A spa - who would have thought there would be naked people? Secondly, the staff can be rather brusque - I put this down to lack of language skills rather than rudeness. So the Spa - set in what can only be called a commercial area of Palisades Park the facility is spread over several floors including one for women and one for men with some communal facilities. There is valet parking. At the entrance one can pay for a series of treatments and massages or just the general entrance. Look for rates as there can be a substantial saving. Once having paid you are given a wrist band and then you are on your own.At the entrance to the wet area you remove your shoes and then find your locker - here is the first test. All clothes have to come off no exceptions. You then enter the shower area and what will no doubt be a further test for many people - lot of naked people doing things you normally do in the privacy of your own bathroom, brushing teeth clipping nails etc. All taking no notice of you. This is a real Korean bath house used by villages not only in Korea but much of the Far East as a social centre, rumour mill and generally a place to hang out. In the male section you can have a haircut and excellent and cheap massages ( this is not a place to discover your inner Zen) it is bustling with many generations of families mingling together and quite a few westerners. The body scrub is phenomenal, you can feel the dead skin sloughing off you, but beware there is no part of your body left untouched - you will however glow for hours. You can then put on a one size fits all of shorts and top and join the general population on the other floors which consist of a TV room, quiet area and restaurant serving Korean food - try the eggs cooked in the sauna. There are also several saunas of varying degrees of heat. Some have minerals embedded in the walls in the believe that these have an healing effect. Essentially you go inside and throw yourself onto a mat and join the other guests taking the heat for as long as possible. This is not a serene spa with wind chimes and Enya on the Itunes. It is a bustling facility that is open for 24 hours a day, full of Korean extended families, eating, playing chess, reading newspapers and watching television. It is great. There is a shuttle bus from New York City and I would guess that it can get very crowded on the weekends. Mid week it is manageable.I would highly recommend this experience to anyone that wants to have spa treatments without needing a bank loan.
I've been to King Spa twice, once with my friend and once with my hubby. This was a nice day trip in December, when the temperature is cold and a good way to relax during the holidays. The place is huge, so many different saunas. There Is a restaurant, serving Korean food, TV rooms to nap or watch tv, Internet area( they have computers for your use), ice room. It was a nice way to spend 1/2 a day just relaxing!
IT WAS A HORRIBLE experience, thanks to the Spa's manager KEVIN KANG. King's Spa valet parking scratched my car and they didn't want to take any responsibility. I asked manager KEVIN KANG who will be responsible for that and what are they going to do about it. In response he started yelling at me, right into my face in front of other people. I didn't deserve to be treated like that after spending $200 at the spa on top of the admission tickets. We were planning to come back, but never again! If something goes wrong, they not willing to help. He actually offered me to fix it, and asked a valet parking employee who damaged my car to CLEAN SCRATCHES WITH WINDEX. Unbelievable, I thought it was a joke! But they DID it, they wiped it with Windex and asked me if I was happy now. We left humiliated and disappointed. WILL NEVER COME BACK!
