Maybe it is because it was my first time in a real cavern but this place was well worth my time and money and my kids and husband also really enjoyed it. Don't be turned off by the location or the dilapidated structures and roads leading to this attraction. The caverns located here are supposedly the largest dry caverns in all of the United States and took about one hour to see and walk through the whole thing. We took an elevator down 240 feet (22 stories) to get to the cavern area. The pathway was cemented and smooth with ambient lighting throughout making it very accessible for folks young and old who can walk without issue. There is no way one would feel claustrophobic inside. It was truly immense inside. Two of the caverns wereIMAX movie theater size to give people some perspective of the size. This place was also listed as an emergency shelter and one of these large caverns had enough supplies in there to hold over 2000 people for 2 weeks. Pretty large cavern if it can hold over 2000 people!
I have driven by the Caverns sign for years, never stopping to tour it. Finally was on a driving trip the Grand Canyon West (another review) and deciced to tour the "largest dry cavern". I was actually very impressed with the tour guide and the size/scope of the cave system. A very interesting way to spend several hours, even go a "that was really cool" from the 12 year old.
Good Facility and memorable place. We have wonderful moment in caverns tour. they have many historical spot in cave.
This is advertised as a two hour tour, but it was over in one hour. That's the first complaint. The young lady guiding us had no experience, and was a dud. We spent a lot of time in the suite the owner wants to rent to tourists, which had nothing to do with the cave. We encountered no ghosts, no noises, no touches, nothing. They handed out little gizmos which were supposed to pick up a presence, but nothing. I understand that ghosts cannot be programmed to appear, however the guide should have told stories of past encounters at least? After half hour, she took us to the bunk house up out of the cave (another sleep-over the owner wants to rent out, hmmmm?). That was another dud, no ghosts, no stories, nothing. I think this is overpriced, and not well rehearsed.
We missed this last time we traveled route 66, but not this time. Was not crowded (not sure if it gets crowded), the guide was informative and helpful and the caves were great to see. Hey - if Billy Connolly can do this, so can we !! The dope on the rope sign (and it's meaning), caused a chuckle from my wife - especially when my two boys posed next to it !!
We went down in an elevator, and toured through - we were the only ones there, so we had our own private tour. Our guide was entertaining. We did the 45 minute tour, and it was pretty good. I would recommend this tour. It is a dry cavern, and very interesting. There is a hotel room down there, and a fallout shelter as well. We declined the special offer on the hotel room overnight - not really my thing! but did enjoy the tour through.
This was a interesting cavern, but being a dry one, there was not too many interesting things to see. The stories about the bobcat being trapped in the cave and how it was discovered, was interesting. You can stay overnight at a cost of $550 per night.
A nice place to stop on Rt66, the cave tour started with a trip down in a lift (elevator) which was a bonus to the non hikers among us!! Being dry caverns which is not what we had seen previously it was interesting althoug maybe not as beautifl as other caves. Guide had lots of knowledge and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Don't think I could handle sleeping in the suite overnight but it was fun to see.
We stoped in on the way up RT 66 it was a nice tour the price with a.a.a. discount was about $33 for two of us. the young man who was our guied was verry knowledable we hade a good time
Wow ! Is all I can say about the caverns . They were so amazingly beautiful and very interesting on their formation and history ! Our tour guide Bill was awesome as well . A 1 min ride down 220 ft down to a constant 56 degree temp year round . There were some steep spots of climbing and a lot of stairs but well worth the effort . The cost of the tour is only 21.95 They also offer a Ghost tour as well the caverns are haunted by some friendly spirits , on the ghost tour you go down after all reg tours are done and you go all dark for this tour with the exception of a flashlight ! Our paranormal team did the tour and all I can say is DO IT ! That cost is 15.95 and yes I can say we did experience things down there :)
