This lovely, peaceful park is named after Subramanya Bharati who was a Tamil Poet / Patriot. He was a fugitive from British India and arrived in Pondicherry in 1908. It is centrally located in the French Quarter, surrounded by the Heritage buildings from the French Era. It is very near the Promenade. People enjoy walks along the walkways which are lit up at night with the original antique lamp posts. Its lush green trees provide much needed shade in the summer to protect visitors from the heat. There is a beautiful Aayi Mandpam in the middle of the park, carved pillars and stone carvings of different Gods and Goddesses.
Nothing much to explore here...A decent enough place if you want to take a stroll in the garden..sit and relax..
Facing the Ra j bhavan the park is very well maintained keeping the weather in view. it is pretty big place to go around see the place large trees an well made path ways. it is in the old city where you can take an heritage walk to go down the history of the Pondicherry and the French building still in same conditions.stay close by and have a walk both morning and evening. it has lot of scope to improve the standard to a greater height.very safe for all type of visitors.
The park is well laid with lot of fun activity for Kids, and pathway for adults to take a stroll. It is decently maintained. Well placed next to Pondicherry Museum and Legislative Assembly. The weather was very pleasant. I didn't see any Urinals though.
Pretty nice place, good breathing place in the town, lot of greenery, surrounded by Raj Bhavan, library, beach across the road...all makes it a good evening sojourn .
We had a stop every day at noon to hide away from the sun and get some shade. The park is well maintained and clean.Popular with the locals.
The place has scope. It is certainly better than many of the gardens we see around India. It is maintained much better compared to Indian standards. Yet there is something left wanting. It may be because of the noisy local crowd that was there when we went. The play area needs maintenance. But a quite hour in the evening could be spent here.
Well maintained park with a walking trail through its circumference. Early mornings are good. Other than that its overcrowded most of the time.
The park is good place to visit and enjoy the sorrundings. However the kid's sections had broken equipments and felt unkept.
We walked through a few times, as the park was a block from our hotel. Very convenient to sit and relax in the shade-- and just watch people. At night there are quite a few lights/decorations---- fun to see. Keep expectations low--- but still nice for a rest or little stroll. entrances are only on east and west gates----other gates seem to be closed.
