My yearly trip to New England always includes a visit to this charming, traditional theater. Very historic with modern upgrades. A bit scary trying to drive there in the dark as it has been for over 80 years over a country road deep in the woods. But that's part of the fun experience. Seen many top quality shows there over the years. Fantastic actors from all over the country make their way here.
Peterborough Players building has been used for years for local theater and semi-professional talent alike. The theater is an old refurbished barn with comfortable seating. The outside has plenty of standing around after the show room. A nice garden and patio area welcome you into the theater. A must see when you visit Peterborough.
The Peterborough Players is as good a theatre experience as you get get anywhere- as good as any theatre I've seen in New York or London. Very well directed and acted, and it's small enough that you are never far from the action. Don't miss it!
The Players is the second oldest summer theater in NH and it produces plays of distinction with equity actors , many of whom come back each summer. Held in an old barn which has been expanded to be able to stage some more elaborate sets, the plays, which run from June to September are varied and usually excellent. This is professional theater at its best. Goodies and drinks (non-alcoholic) available at intermission.
An intimate, well run, professional quality summer stock theater. The theater fills an old barn, air conditioned, and no one sits far from the small stage so that all is visible and audible. All the older actors are slick but some of the younger players seem a bit stiff and uncomfortable. But, that is the whole point of summer stock, to give them time and guidance to learn. We come here about twice every summer because it takes us just over an hour to drive from our home north of Boston. The area around the theater is typical, rural NH, with a nearby state park (MIller), worth a visit. A few good restaurants in the area, try the Pearl, allow coming to this theater a pleasant, half-day excursion.
This acting company consistently brings home awards in the "Best of NH" each year, and for good reason. They have a history of attracting premier actors - both well known and local - year after year. We see most of their plays each year, and they are always well acted and well directed, with a few each year reaching the superb level. Highly recommended.
High quality talent and theater productions. You must reserve tickets in advance or stand the chance of being sold out. Have dinner earlier in the town of Peterborough and then summer theater = great evening!
You can't go wrong spending an evening with the Peterborough Players. First rate theater in a lovely country setting- and it is now air conditioned! Great value for your money. We have never seen a mediocre show there. Enjoy dinner first in downtown Peterborough and then enjoy a performance!
We ended up seeing Present Laughter here as a last-minute substitution for the cancelled Jaffrey fireworks. I was skeptical, since I was expecting rural summer stock quality. These guys are different - I don't know how they attract this level of talent to an itty-bitty town, but whatever they're doing, it's working out for them! Great production values, and great acting. Plus, we were lucky enough to be there on the night of their cabaret, and it was a lot of fun to see people who have obviously enjoyed working together for many summers throw caution to the wind and just entertain each other.
I admit I am guilty of not going to see Peterborough Players. A friend took me on a "date" and it was a wonderful evening. This is historic theatre is the grand intimate style. Seating is tight but, not uncomfortable. Journey to Peterborough, sit n relax while your mind travels back in time.
