This is a wonderful park with soft sand and a shallow beach. It was like a Caribbean resort. We also brought our bikes and rode around the park which was also lovely.
We can only imagine what Sandbanks is like in high summer. But it's magical in midwinter, when you're the only ones on the beach, trudging across deep snow along snowmobile tracks, with frozen ice plumed into amazing shapes and the deep open water shimmering in the distance
this is the largest freshwater sandune in north america, im told, 300 mile lake on one side a 10 mile inland lake on the other, 1 mile across, comes to a tip a the village of wellington ontario, triangle shaped, At this location one can sail; out to lake ontario or onto west lake ,,, enjoy
This is a great place for swimming miles of white sandy beaches. Close to Picton Bloomfield which are two great shopping places in the summer time. There are trails and marshes and wet lands for those enjoy nature In the fall the leaves are a site all on their own. It is a great place for windsailing.
We camped in the campground for Thanksgiving weekend. It was very quiet - there were not many campers there. Although a little chilly, we enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the trimmings outside!!!! We were able to go for a long walk and take in all the beautiful colours of fall.
I love to leave the city on the weekend and head here for the whole day on a Saturday. The drive from the city is nice, long but nice but worth it. We usually hit up the dog portion of the beach as we have a little rat LOL The beach is always nice, clean, and most people are respectful with their dogs. Picnics on the beach at Sandbanks are the best. Parking is always available and close to the beach, not too far of a walk. Change rooms are so so. The washrooms are not the best. But the sand is beach sand and they don't have that in the city.
The late fall/early winter hike through the dunes was a great way to end our weekend. The park was pretty much empty but lots of trails and animal tracks to see.
Sandbanks is one of the best provincial parks in Canada. The views are breathtaking and the water is amazing.
Nice place BEACH only Place sucks if you want to get dinged for parking this is the place.. even if you paid the officers seam to add tickets to your car regardless… I paid at the front gate I still got a ticket I sent all the proof still had to pay I would never return no one care if you have al the proof so I am out 46 bucks for no reason
We camped in August and there were no mosquitos. All the beaches are beautiful, as are the trails. The sand is soft, you can frolic in the waves. There was enough to explore that we had no need to leave the park. It was so awesome I'm having a mental block in terms of forcing myself to try another park. Sandbanks was wonderful.
