We played the Dormie Club in the morning and chose to play Foxfire in the afternoon. The course played well and the greens rolled very smooth. We observed that they had too many similar raised greens, with a bunker in the middle with the pin close behind the bunker. It felt redundant. It was a pretty challenging course and it played pretty fast in the afternoon. We had lunch there and the food was goodWe would recommend the course
Two 18 hole courses at Foxfire. Very good designs, pace of play was very good. Course not in the peak of condition, just aerated the greens so they were slow and bumpy. Value was outstanding just $25.
Foxfire is under new ownership and has been greatly improved. A longtime favorite of ours is now better than ever. New signage, improved playing conditions, new golf cars, friendly staff, great food all at a great value and price. Glad to see these two good layouts being returned to their days of glory. We will go back!
Red or grey courses are both nice and also challenging..many courses in the area to chose from but worth playing here.. All new carts and staff is very friendly and helpful..
This is a very nicely designed and interesting if a bit long track. Given today's economy and trends in golf, our expectations were a bit high. Most of the greens were in good condition, the bunkers needed sand and maintenance and fairways and t-boxes were a mixed bag, needing cutting and some pre-emergent. I think we'll try another course next year.
Good for the med. to high handicap. Good greens now, after much rain.
Just played the Red Course on Wednesday May 22...what an incredible course! I had played an event here in the mid-90's and had not played the course since. I was "blown away" with the customer service from the time I arrived to when I departed. I was met in the parking lot by "J.W" who assisted me with not only my bag, but gave me course conditions as well. When I walked into the golf shop I was warmly greeted by both "Chris and Danny" who were working behind the desk. As I played my round I was impressed with the condition of the course (especially the greens) and when I finished I went into "Ol' Harve's Pub" and enjoyed a fantastic lunch. "Heidi" was my server and she saw to my every need. The changes that have been made to this course since my last visit were remarkable and I will certainly recommend to my friends to add this to their list the next time they visit the area.
We were staying in the Pinehurst area for a couple days and wanted to golf. Foxfire reviews were good and prices were right for us! We enjoy golfing but aren't that good so try to limit what we spend for green/cart fees. Foxfire is on Golfnow and we were able to catch the "Hot Deal" which meant both of us golfed for less that the price of one! The course was brown although fairways and greens were green. However, they were very hard and flat - not much grass in the rough so made it challenging. When chipping onto the green, at times it was like chipping off of cement. I'm sure as the spring turns into summer, conditions would improve. We stopped here to catch a bite for lunch before teeing off and were pleasantly surprised with the menu selections. However, we caught it just as the morning leagues were finishing so service wasn't ideal. They only had one server covering bar, dining, and bussing. Luckily one of the managers stepped in to help out at the rush so we got our food in time. The course is about a 15 minute drive outside of town, but the grounds are beautiful. We played the Grey course - lots of doglegs, hills, and some water. We seemed to be the only ones on the course - never had to wait to tee off nor had anyone waiting for us. We reallly enjoyed it - was a great way to ease back into the season.
Played Foxfire West in early April 2013 for the first time. Fee as a guest was $35 (incl. cart). The course is challenging, about 5800 yds from the forward tees with several uphill fairways or elevated greens, but manageable (I am a 75-year old bogie player). It has an interesting layout, visually very attractive. The rough was short, but apparently is longer as the season progresses, which would add to the challenge. Because of the spring weather the greens had not recovered fully from aeration, but were playable. The staff was quite friendly. I am looking forward to playing it again sometime.
Courses are challenging, but not so difficult to be discouraging. Sand traps are interesting. Several of the holes are quite scenic. The staff is friendly.
