A strenuous 40 minute climb and a great view from the top. It is also possible to climb up the stairs inside the huge cross which is erected at the top of the cerro.
Took a missions team to Uruguay in late February 2015. The climb is somewhat strenuous I am 53, wife 45, and friend 40's and my team was 20's and below. We had a great time and although the top is heavy with graffiti the view was spectacular! It took us about 2 hours to the top (stopping for many photos) and about 1.5 hours down. Take some gloves and some sturdy shoes. Many rocks and boulders to climb up. Also don't forget water as there was no place at the bottom once we got down to buy more. Would go there often if I lived there!
Went with my twelve year old and would say it is a difficult walk up, sometimes more if a scramble up, but well worth it. No water at the top, so take with you. About 2.5 hours plus
To get this view you need to be prepared to a 90 minute walk up to the top of Cerro Pan de Azúcar. When you're there, you may choose to take the steps to the arms of the (rather ugly) cross at the top of the hill. Plenty of parking place and some handcraft stores at the bottom, also snacks available. Free parking and entry.
