This is your standard, but still beautiful, flat falls falling 65 feet off of Looking Glass Rock. It is also the easiest to view and is literally right off of the road, there is plenty of parking and there is a set of steps that goes down to the bottom of the falls. You can also walk onto the rocks to the river below. In the winter the water freezes on the face of the rock and the rock reflects sunlight like a giant mirror, hence the name Looking Glass Falls.Don't miss these falls, if you are driving but it almost impossible not to see them!
We stopped at the ranger station and picked up a map (also they were very helpful). Great trails and many waterfalls in the area but it was nice to stop with the family and walk to the bottom of Looking Glass. Great picture spot! Don't forget to get some calabash shrimp at Pisgah Fish Camp in Brevard!
I love all water falls. This one was beautiful it had a nice area to take pictures . It was also a beautiful drive .
This was one awesome waterfall. It was kinda crowded but it is definitely worth the stop. It's very easy to get to with it being right on the roadside. This is one you don't want to miss.
My husband and I enjoyed these falls. The accessibility is great as it is right off the main road. If you are tired you can just go to the entrance on the level of the road and sit on the bench there and enjoy the falls. There are two more benches, one at a little lower level and one at the bottom of the stairs. There is a way if you really desired to climb out on to the rocks but the viewing area was just right. It is well worth a visit!
It's not much but for someone from the city it's something new and fun and great to enjoy with the family. You can get into the lake and under the fall if you can stand the cold water temperature! Overall it was a great experience.
We took Hwy 276 basically from Canton to Brevard. I prefer this drive to driving through the Smoky Mountains simply because we more or less had the road to ourselves. We could go at our own pace without having a tailgater or getting stuck behind a slow poke. The road parallels a creek for much of the distance, and hair-pin turns are entertaining. The leaves in this area turn sooner than those in Asheville. Looking Glass Falls is only a few miles from another quick stop at Sliding Rock. On Hwy 276, there is a paved pull-off area where you can park parallel to the road and walk to Looking Glass Falls. If you get the best parking spot, then you only have to walk about twenty feet to an upper viewing area, which is probably accessible even to wheelchairs. You can go down a series of stairs to a middle viewing area and a lower viewing area. Lots of people climb over the rail to climb on the rocks at the base of the falls or even walk around under the falls. Because it is easy to see, and a short trip from towns along Hwy 64, I can imagine that it would be very crowded during peak times.
Anyone can enjoy this amazing waterfall, from the roadside view or a walk down easy steps. It's very family friendly and easily accessible.
Right by the road-us hwy 276. Is just a pretty, beautiful sight. you can go down low, or stay up high. Just ONE of over 220 waterfalls in the Brevard area!
This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in North Carolina and it is immediately off the road with lots of parking.
