We had a family weekend here to celebrate our matriarch's 80th birthday with 30 people ages 80 to 18 months and we were very pleased with the choice. There were activities for all the age groups so while some relaxed at the pool, others would hike, ... To start the review, I first have to compliment the staff. From the front desk staff to the bar/restaurant staff to the event planning staff, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Second, I have to comment on the prices; I can't say that the room fees are cheap, but they are very reasonable and the food/beverage prices are very reasonable as well. There is a sign at the pool stating that no food or beverages can be brought in and I thought this was a set-up for a very expensive day but I was wrong. The prices at the poolside snack shack were very reasonable ($10 for an iced bucket with 5 beers) - certainly different from resort prices that I am used to paying. Finally, the facilities were very nice and set in a very scenic area of southern Ohio. I had a room with two doubles and two bunks so it was nice to be able to put my family of 5 into one room for only a few dollars more than a standard room. Also, the pool area is very nice with a large pool and even a diving board. We all loved it! All in all, a great place for a get-away!
Thoroughly impressed with the accomodations and the overall cleanliness of the park. Beautiful scenery and very peaceful. We hiked, canoed, fished, sat by the fire, and just enjoyed the woods. This park has alot to offer and the staff were most courteous. Food was very good as well.
Shawnee is another jewel in the state park system. We had a very nice, level campsite and enjoyed the quiet only interrupted by the birds twittering away.TV service is limited to PBS. We were fortunate to see a program about Portsmouth and it's beautiful murals. We decided to come back to see them while once again exploring the area.Verizon service is very spotty (what's new?. The only place to get phone reception is at the top of the hill near the lodge. We shall return!
The lodge at Shawnee state park is by far hands down the best place around to stay. It's that simple. I've stayed at comfort inn, holiday inn, almost made the mistake that is super 8, this is it! Especially for what they charge, it's a bargain.
We recently had a 3 family celebration staying in the Lodge .Booked the Senior Rate you can't beat .Check in early on a Sunday one room was ready.Within 20 minutes the other two Were ready .All rooms were clean ,fresh and rustic with high ceilings and woods view with a large Balcony .Dinner in the dining room our waitress friendly .A few diners sat at the windows. With a perfect view of trees still with some fall colors .The woods , hills and lake. Our food came quickly .The shrimp though were cold and chewy but still edible .Unfortunately A group of volunteers had come in earlier to decorate for Christmas .While we were finishing our dinner unknown to us our waitress had gone to serve them .We sat waiting and finally another waitress came over said our waitress was busy and asked us what we had .Wrote our orders down and came back with bill .We were interested in dessert .We sat waiting for someone to take our money .Finally I went and found our waitress who gave us the original checks .The next evening the waitress apologized all was well .Our breakfast in the am was good .Including service .Price is right and selection good .This was on a Sunday , Monday Drawback room was the wall unit heater .Noisy the fan going on & off .Sound between rooms could be a problem .Heavy doors slamming at times .The pool , spa , sauna clean .Fun times. In the game room .We also hiked two local trails one to the beach .Town a must see is the Murals On the Flood Wall .We met the Artist they were outstanding !! We frequent Ohio State Parks And always enjoy the facilities service and price .
Love the cabins and the lodge. Huge outdoor pool; great indoor pool. Disliked that they are no longer providing bars of soap in cabins.
Very many walking trails and things to,do. The lodge is a great place to stay and visit, I would stay there next Tim for sure
Hiding in plain sight is the hidden gem of Shawnee State Park; Ohio's largest and considered by many the most beautiful. Whether a day-trip to walk one of the many trails or an overnight at the Shawnee Lodge for a fine dinner, it is so worth the trip. As a local, I visit in the summer to take advantage of the near Olympic-size pool and nearby cabana serving refreshing cocktails (including those for adults). And inside is a heated pool, sauna and hot tub. What an incredible place !!!
Beautiful place to visit lots of trails loved it! A fun place to camp and take the family for a weekend.
This park is great for hiking. I stayed in the lodge for one night. Rooms are decent and everything worked. The lobby area is very nice, and the service was great at check-in.
