If you have a few minutes, a trip to the post office at 55 Mansion St. is well worth it. It is the most beautiful and fascinating post office I have ever seen. There is 20 minutes parking in front of the building. There are no parking meters. This magnificent stone building was built by the WPA during the 1930's. There are some paintings on the first floor, but go up to the second floor and see the huge (at least 24 feet long) , lifelike murals. I was in awe looking at them. It's too bad that the government doesn't have WPA projects today to put people to work and help beautify America.
Went here Saturday morning they don't open until 10, thats crazy to me. The women behind the counter are super friendly and fast!
This is so important today with internet business soaring. When I have an Express I want to know it's on it's way & not sitting around waiting for the 6pm truck. I move a LOT of packagaes & have made the extra trip over the river to get important RUSH items out . My Customers are Worth it!! Thank you Poughkeepsie for Always being Open.. Now can we get one on this side of the river?
My husband and I had just done Walkway Over The Hudson. We walked to lunch at Mill House Brewing Company and then checked out this place! I had read on tripadvisor to go here and I was glad I did! We got there 5 min before they closed and the janitor let us in to look around. He was really nice to do that! Floor to ceiling murals on second floor! I did not expect that! Check it out!
Not sure why this was with restaurants but the service has always been pretty good. Parking can be a little challenging at times, though.
This post office has so much character! It makes it worth standing in line so one can take in the beautiful artwork.
What a treasure this is! There is an interpretative display with old photos and the inside is all marble and gilt. There is also a beautiful mural extending from the ground floor up. It still operates as a US post office.
This building with masonry and ornate metal and wood fixtures reminded me of the grand old post offices of my childhood. Appointments are necessary for passport processing.
im sorry to say this. The employees are a bunch of grumpy women, never smile ever!!!. that does not bother me, the fact that not once have they ever dropped a package on time. it sucks because the mail man is a nice dude. I'm venting this online because I'm tired of going to the post office to pick @#$% up!!! nice post office tho
I see it as privilege to use the post office in Poughkeepsie. It is probably one of the most edifying regarding art and American History. Quite often there are visions to be seen and we don't see and we miss them. Should you have the need to use it, really look and see! The folks who work there are cool, too.
