This nature park on the edge of downtown at the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser rivers is a gem indeed with paths wandering through the forest and along the rivers among tall trees many of which are towering cottonwoods. There are benches for watching the river flow by; tables and shelters for picnics; a boat launch; a fish hatchery and the railway museum. Many animals make this park their home and glimpses are possible...especially of eagles. The main trail along the river is part of the Heritage trail and connections can easily be made to Ft. George and L.C. Gunn Parks. There is something to interest all ages in this park.
Just seemed uncared for. Stagnant water in the creek and lots of mosquitos... we turned around after only being on the trail for 5 minutes.
Beautiful open walking park. Smooth trails, huge Cotten wood trees. Bordered by both the Nechako and Fraser Rivers. Has look out points built just off the paths. Great nature walk. Dogs welcome. Great to just get out and submerge your self in the true nature. Bring your camera you will definitely want to take pictures, especially on the wooden bridge. Great all year round as well. Does occasionally flood during flood season as it is literally bordering the two rivers. All in all, I've been here many times and will be back with out a doubt.
My friend and I, we rented the bikes from the visitor center (it's free, by the way) and we explored the park in the morning just before our train would return to Jasper. Easy to access and beautiful coin of nature. You can wander around, pass the tree carvings, admire the river and breath fresh air in the middle of an industrial city. It's worth spending some time in Prince George and admire the nature.
There's nothing to dislike about the Cottonwood Island Nature Park, and we saw that the locals know how great it is to take a stroll along the river. Although lots of people were out and about, we still felt we had a quiet and relaxing stroll. Highly recommended!
Great place to take the dogs. City plows the snow so it's a nice walk even in the winter. There is also a nice wood bridge that locals take wedding pictures at so bring your camera.
Great walking trails. Dogs welcome. Bordered by the Nechako and Fraser Rivers. Some view points. Shaded parking large enough for a few motorhomes. Near the Railway Museum.
Easy walking path, tranquil river-side walk, mature trees, abundance of small wildlife, pristine surroundings.
Cottonwood Island Nature Park is a rustic park just on the edge of town. It is part of the Heritage River Trail system and lots of fun to explore. Occasionally, if you look carefully, you will find many beautiful flowers, including the yellow ladies slipper. Its also fun to search for the tree spirits carved into some of the cottonwoods. The park is historically significant as two rivers join here. Dogs are welcome, but I believe, just on the trails by the water. And, if your a mushroom fan, you can find morels here in the spring.
Lovely spot for a hike and an afternoon spent in nature. Great place to bring the dogs with lots of space for them to run around.
