We enjoyed taking photos of this gorgeous lake, and also appreciated visiting the Three Sisters Spring. The informational office was a great stop too.
What can I say, this is the most clean, quiet, naturally beautiful lake in Arkansas. Great fishing, beautiful islands to get lost from the outside world on. Great bird watching on bird island, lots of beaches to pull your boat on. A true diamond.
So beautiful with the changing leaves. We arrived late in the day and fishing wasn't that great. However, the scenery was gorgeous. Lacking in service a bit at the marina, but overall, wonderful time!
This review is specifically about the Sunset Boat tour run by the rangers at Lake Ouachita State Park. There are several things you can do at Lake Ouachita, this is my favorite! This boat tour is actually run by the Rangers at the Visitor Center. You may or may not find it advertised on their website. It is a tour that runs 2 days a week or so depending on the season.I found out about it by accident when I called about wanting to know about lakes in the area while talking to a ranger. They actually have a number of such tours depending on the season. In late summer they have a boat tour to take visitors out to one of the islands on Lake Ouachita and watch the migrating birds. By the time we got there in August the bird island tour was over so we took the sunset tour. They also have kayak exploration tours. CALL (501) 767-9366 (Visitor Center) AND ASK WHAT BOAT TOURS THEY HAVE, IT ISN'T ON THEIR WEBSITE! As the tours are seasonal and are held on specific days of the week, it is always best to call and make reservations in advance. They accept payment when you check into the visitor's center. ABOUT LAKE OUACHITA: Its a beautiful lake , almost 1000 miles of coastline, covering 40000 acres, full of fish, there are cabins you can rent and more information about the lake can be found at http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/!userfiles/pdfs/Lake%20Ouachita_2012_PRINT.pdf ABOUT THE SUNSET TOUR It is a guided tour of the lake at sunset, a spectacular way to end a day. The cost is minimal ( I believe it was 15$ per person, I dont remember) compared to other boat tours which are rip offs. The tour is not hurried, it is very safe, the ranger was very knowledgeable and funny. We saw a beautiful sunset from the water ad had a marvelous time. The boat tour is an excellent way to see the lake especially if you dont have any other means of exploring the lake. The lake is just enormous and we went close to the shore sometimes to look at crystal veins glistening on rocks, or to see unusual stone formations, trees etc. The boat tour does not include dinner or snacks. During the boat trip the ranger kept us entertained with several interesting facts!
Lake Ouachita has clear, clean, and calm waters. The diving was amazing. The camp grounds are some of the best I have seen. Fishing is next to none when they are biting. I did not notice any houses on the lake.
Really enjoyed driving through the area and national forest. Lake has some scenic areas. Leaves changing colors really added to appeal.
As expected of a 2nd largest lake in the US. Sailing here watching the sunset would be the best thing ever to do in a vacation. Couldn't agree more with Cindy F, Lake Ouachita is gorgeous all year around.
And one of the cleanest too. I spent many happy hours on and in this special lake. For swimming, boating, hiking, they even certify divers here. You can camp out, spend the day or week...
This National park is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the cabins in the National Park right on the lake. We rented a pontoon boat and traveled around the lake to enjoy the beautiful scenic views and nature. Such a peaceful and clean place to be.
Over 900 miles of shoreline. 20 years of exploring the lake and finding favorite places. Start at the State Park. Activities include Eagle watch on the lake, geo scavenger, many talks hosted by the parks department, trails, and lots of friendly travelers. All seasons are gorgeous here winter white, spring green, summer bright, and autumn lovers.
