If you making a road trip to Gaspé it's worth your while to take the North shore road, check out town of Tadoussac and use the ferry to cross St. Laurence river to Riviere-Du Loup (from St. Simeon) and then continue your trip. It's not a cheap but very interesting and fun experience (especially in summer). We took the 9 AM departure, which was late by 15 min. One needs to line-up about 1.5 hour before the departure time , as it's first come, first on the boat policy, and the number of cars is limited to 100. If there are a few buses or semi-trailers, they take in less cars. Wen you park your vehicle, go up the hill for a fast breakfast at one the few restaurants. You pay on board ,next to the restaurant, which also serves local food that I found overpriced. There is also a gift shop with a local theme items. We stayed outside on the deck and saw different birds, but sadly no whales. The whole trip took about 75 min. and it's worth it.
The M.V. Trans-Saint-Laurent is one of the few ferries in Québec to offer full meal service on board from mid-June to mid-September, and a snack bar. Please note that starting from September 16th, passengers may purchase food and beverages at the snack bar where a variety of food is available.
Enjoy the deck and the passing shoreline ,as you watch for whales .Forget the minimal food service, but the beer is cold.
Excellent , staff very friendly and we really enjoyed breakfast during the crossing. Overall experience was excellent .
We really enjoyed the crossing. We saw whale pods and beautiful scenery. Make sure you let them know that you are doing the return trip if you are taking the ferry as a tour. They have a kids play room which was perfect because we had a 2 year old with us
We recently stayed in Riviere-Du-Loup and needed to get to St. Simeon first thing in the morning to drive down to Quebec City with a few stops along the way. We were running very late for the ferry, so it was helpful that there are signs all over town pointing to the ferry terminal, although the sign for the very last turn was so small that we nearly missed it, and my husband thought I'd taken a wrong turn when I followed it. We made it to the ferry with seconds to spare, and they were very easy going about letting us on (unlike certain larger ferry operators). We were surprised to learn that we paid on board, not before driving onto the ferry. The ferry was very empty. We took our tickets upstairs and paid the fare, and then ate breakfast at the onboard cafe. The service was great, and the food was pretty decent, albeit a little pricey for what it is. There is very little to do on the 90 minute journey (they advertise it as 65 minutes, but it took 90 for us), so definitely bring a book or something to do. Apparently, the view of the St. Lawrence from the boat is supposed to be beautiful, but we saw nothing that morning due to heavy fog. Overall, it was our only option for getting to St. Simeon, and it was a decent journey. The ship and its amenities could definitely use some updating, especially when compared to other ferry operators that offer trips of similar lengths at the same price.
We really enjoyed our crossing from Rivière-du-Loup to Simeon. We saw wildlife and enjoyed sitting out side taking in the view of the mountains and shore. We would most definitely use this ferry again.
More than just a typical ferry ride because of the location - we saw plenty of seals and even spotted a whale. It also gave us the chance to drive along both banks of the St Lawrence which I can highly recommend. It is a little pricy and drink/snacks service from some of the staff was grumpy and grudging.
Have taken this ferry before and as in previous trips found it to be clean and quick. Saw two pods of belugas during the crossing. Certainly a most convenient and relaxing way of getting from the north shore to the south shore of the St. Lawrence, especially on a beautiful summer morning.
Enjoyed the ride across the St. Lawrence River. Small bar/restaurant on board that people seemed to enjoy. Comfortable seating and reasonable price.
