I've been a Stagecrafter's season ticket holder for several years and have seen many wonderful productions. The theater is comfortable and the local theater groups are amazingly talented. We usually have dinner at one of the local restaurants then walk over to the Baldwin. It a wonderful evening out.
I've taken my kids to two if the summer kids programs and they are terrific. Last summer it's was Suessical the Musical junior and this summer we saw 101 Dalmatians. All the actors were local kids and they did a great job. Tickets were very reasonable and the shows are great family fun. A great way to introduce my kids to live theatre. I've been to the regular season shows and ai am amazed at the local talent!
The theatre was well kept for age, I guess it was recently renovated. Bathrooms are new and nice. Seats are pretty comfortable for a theatre. The ticket price was reasonable.
We saw "Curtains" last year and decided to purchase season tickets this year. Well we just saw the production of "Les Miserables" - it was wonderful. As good as any Broadway production. Saw Lion King at the Fox last year and it was so uninspiring and pedestrian - could not believe all the hoopla regarding that musical and tickets were $100+ each. Back to Stagecrafters and Les Mis - The vocalists at Stagecrafters were spot on - the ensemble numbers filled the theater with a wonderful rich sound. Wow. What a deal for under $25 a ticket. Not a bad seat in the house. So glad we are season ticket holders. Now I see all the shows are sold out for this production and I was hoping to get back for another show.Amazing community theater!
Just saw my second main stage production by Stagecrafters -- Les Mis. Wow. The production values were high. Not a really big stage, but they found a way to depict most every scene very well. Even had the echo type sound when in the sewers. How they found GREAT folks to play Valjean, Javert, Fantine -- beats me. The latter two were as good as those I've seen in national tours. Valjean was as good too, but his short stature was a bit too much to ignore. Outside of a volume problem with Little Cosette, the sound was fantastic as well; the orchestra was just right.Toss in that our seats and most everyone else's were close enough to see every expression and gesture -- well -- this was my favorite play performance overall. Beautiful theatre. Great singing and orchestra. Great seats. The acting was better in some ways than the national folks -- the more intimate setting perhaps helped that aspect. Just terrific.
On June 7th I saw the production of the Wizard of Oz. All I can saw is wow, what a great show! It's hard to remember that this is a comunity theatre. How can one place have so much local top notch tallent is just mind blowing. The costumes, sets, sound system, stage, seating, common area and bathrooms are all just top notch, you are getting so much for the price of your ticket. This group is by far heads and shoulders above other comunity theatre shows I have seen. I have seen other shows there too in the past and I have never been disipointed.
First the theater is gorgeous. There is a restoration committee who has restored this treasure to it's glory days. Second - the plays are amazing, AMAZING! The performance/actors take your breath away. Third the staff loves what they do and it shows. When in town I highly recommend you visit the Stagecrafters Baldwin Theater.
I've never been disappointed by any play I've seen at the Stagecrafters and I've been going for years and years. Ones that stand out are Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof and the youth production of Cinderella. Great place to bring your kids for the youth performances and a reasonable price.
These productions are well done and there are a variety of plays presented. We have seen both the adult casts and the children's productions. The theater is small and historic and the feel is "homey".
My first visit to Baldwin Theatre and what a fabulous one! I was really surprised by the talent on stage, and to think they were not paid actors, but volunteers. They were excellent actors and actresses. The costumes were fabulous as were the stage sets. I will definitely be back!
