We only discovered this beach at the end of our stay but wished we had gone there more as it was much nicer than the other beaches. Quite pricey if you want to eat/ drink at the beach bars, but there was a really nice cheap little self service one road off the beach. Takes a while to get there but worth it
nice sand here, probably the cleanest of the Salvador beaches but still not that brilliant, the best I found was Barra because of the location and waves.
Quite far from the city center, but the beach is nice with crystal clear water. Good offer of restaurants there with typical local food.
Flamengo Beach has become one of the most dangerous places in Salvador; actually in Brazil! I know it better than good; lived nearby. I can just warn you to go there. In Stella Maris; part of the beach; they kill people every day. Young students, priests, tourists; whatever. Flamengo has become one of the worst parts of Salvador. Although whole Salvador has become one of the worst places in the world with a murder rate well above civil war standards. Flamengo beach beats it. It is oe of the worst places in Brazil. Be aware; you my pay a high price!
It takes an hour by bus from Salvador, and those buses only go once an hour (if you're lucky, maybe twice), so it took a while to get there. However it was a great surprise, as this area was really up-market, a very large beach with lots of space. >The waves were pretty high, so it is not the best for swimming far, or snorkling. It seems clean although the waves and sand made visibility in the water poor.
If you like to go to a beach where you can get big waves, so this is the right beach to go. This beach is the favourite of surfing. Just be careful with your stuff. There is a lot of pick pockets around the area.
One needs remember that ocean can take you back, Ussualy at 3 o'clock. Nice beach not so crammed with people.
Fantastic local snack food and fantastic caparinjas....Pity that there was a little down pour which meant we could not go down to the beach, but it looked like a great swimming beach. Staff at Pipa were great.
We went to Flamengo Beach during the World Cup. The Beach is really nice and has a good restaurant near by. You can go swimming and enjoy the sun. After lunch we went for a walk along the beach to the south. It was the same time as the Brasilian Match, and nobody was left on the beach. Suddenlly a guy walked towards us and wanted to grab our bags. Finally he stole our stuff. So be careful! Don't go there when there are no people!!!! It is only save when there are a lot of people.
Going to Flamengo is a nice way to spend the day. About 45 minutes from Vitória (about a R$85/US$35 taxi ride) without traffic, you will find this extremely nice, wide, and relatively uncrowded beach. Have the taxi take you to Barraca do Loro, at Praia de Aleluia and rent some chairs and umbrellas from them. Very safe -- I have no idea what the poster claiming its dangerous is talking about. Further north you will find stone reefs and tide pools which are nice for kids. Loro also has a nice restaurant and beach club, with good food and facilities.
