Not many tourists do visit Szeged. Yet, it is a lovely old city with lots of beautiful buildings and many good shops. It has a charming grandeur in a mix of Hungarian and Austrian style. Szeged is very well located on both the motorways to Romania and Serbia and therefore is a good stop on the route. To Budapest you can drive in less than 2 hours.
We were there in January, on a gloomy day, and the complex looks even bigger than it is. The square was completely empty, with only a few tourists around, and you can see all the details around. There is a clock similar to the one in Prague, the National Pantheon and the Votive Church are a part of the complex. Impressive!
Beautiful square, unique building style with musical clock. Heart of the city during summer for open air performances definitely worth a visit.
I really like this square with the Dóm. Luckily I'm seeing multiple times a week because of the University. :)
very impressive from outside, emotional from Inside. I saw the cathedral by night and day, I was equally amazed. The Inside is magnificient, in particular the coupole.
The building that runs along three sides of Dom Square, belonging to the university, has busts of famous Hungarians throughout history along the porticos. The Dom itself is also very nice, with a lovely mosaic on the front and lovely frescos and paintings inside.
It is a great place to visit. I was there in october last year and over there in the square it was the wine festival. Over there it is always hapening something.
Currently the grounds around Dom Ter are being torn up for renovation. Inside the church is truly beautiful. Very close to the trams and bus lines.
Not really blown away by the place ,stumbled onto it on the way to the hospital.Apparently there are 3arch ways entering or exiting the square and lots of students use it on their daily route. It is said you should always pass through the right hand arch to help you pass your exams !!!Very clean with some old statues on the wall but otherwise not very inspiring.
Better if you come in season, when there are more people. We were here right after they packed up the market and everything was empty. Watch the old music clock but check the hours before hand, it only plays at certian hours of the day. Also on the square are the Votive Church of Our Lady, Theological College of Szeged, Bishops Palace, Szeged University facilities.
