I've been to Salem a number of times, but recently travelled with my 23 year old daughter. She loved the museum. Well laid out and the wax figures were quite life-like. Admission was $8, not bad. She bought a t-shirt with Psycho on it, which she plans to wear on Halloween. Nice place and worth a visit.
Since I am not a fan of haunted houses, we went during the day just to check out the nightmare gallery. Like another reviewer stated, if you love monsters, macabre, and horror but hate being scared the gallery is the perfect level of "horror". The life-size statues were incredibly true-to-life and the accompanying information for each was very in-depth and interesting. Yes, it is not a huge gallery, but a nice size and they do tell you when you begin that to truly enjoy the experience it is best to slow down and read everything - which we did and we ended up really enjoying ourselves. For the price of a ticket, it was definitely worth the visit. If you are visiting Salem and looking for a little escape from everything "witch" then I certainly recommend checking out the gallery.
I LOVE monsters but do NOT like being scared therefore I can’t compare this to any of the haunted houses in Salem. But I can absolutely say if you like Monsters you do not want to miss this attraction. The quality is superior to any other activity that I did in Salem. It looks like something you’d see in Disney World or Hollywood itself. I had the misfortune of touring the Salem Wax Museum earlier in the day so I almost decided to skip this place. I am so glad I went. The size of the museum is small but there is so much packed in to every inch that you get a full display of creatures. My advice is to skip the low quality, boring Salem Wax Museum (which I was expecting to be great) and put your money here! You will be glad you did.
The first time we did Halloween in Salem (2009) everything was magical. We arrived days early before the crowds and I had bought tickets in advance for almost everything, including Count Orlok. I was impressed with the quality of display of monsters they have. It is a fun trip through, and not expensive. We had package tickets this time, as well, but I don't think it was over $10 to get in. We went again this Halloween, we did the haunted tour again, as well. It was different tour. It goes fast, as they are pulling you through. So, I can't stress enough to go through first without the lights out so you can enjoy the displays and read the plaques. It is full of life size monsters from Frankenstein to beetle juice. Then go back for the haunted version. There are tickets that include both admissions. A tip I would strongly recommend, as this applied both trips, line up EARLY. We walked away this time for a few minutes, nobody was there and it was about 15 minutes before they let people in. We ended up in line for nearly an hour. That is how fast it fills up. Salem has about 100,000 people come in to party for Halloween, so all the attractions fill up fast on the actual date of Halloween.
This was so much fun. I uploaded a pic of a man dressed as 'Count Orlok' We where entertained the entire visit. A must see when in Salem.
Best haunted house I've ever been to. Do not go here if you don't like being scared. They come very close to touching you without actually touching you.
Super disappointed, my partner and i travelled from Boston on a day trip to Salem. Even though we had checked all the websites and opening times Count Orlok's was closed when we arrived (which we didn't find out until we called their number). I understand that being winter some stores and attractions are closed but maybe they should have the correct opening hours on their website.
Pretty cool. Line moved quickly. Went over the Halloween weekend 2014. Would recommend. Creepy inside, cool props.....
Loved it! Totally go if you're into horror movies. It was great to walk around without any staff members following you around.
One of my favorite hangout spots in Salem on my days off! An amazing horror/sci-fi collection all the way from the silent era up to modern day. Cliff is super-friendly and informative! And there is lots of my main men, Vincent Price, Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing!
