I visited here with a group, the displays looked a bit dated and could have used a good dusting. The tour guide was knowledgable and did a great job, the tour took about 20 minutes and was informative. There were 4 staff members in the gift shop area and I couldn't help thinking afterwards that one of them could have gone through the exhibit with a dust rag. The kids with us were complaining of the musty smell.
We walked all way there only to find it is only open until Oct! Didn't see that mentioned on any of the advertisements we saw. Very disappointed.
The New England Pirate Museum was fun and interesting. Our tour guide was a good presenter, funny, and friendly. Do you know the difference between a pirate and a privateer? Do you know who Thomas Tew was? You will after this tour. It is not a very long tour so you'll have plenty of time to visit other museums in Salem on the same day.
This museum was a part of our combination tickets for two other popular attractions in Salem. I actually had no interest in this place what so ever. I am a fan of pirates, I guess I was just being too cocky. We walked in five minutes prior to the guided tour. We were the last of the tours and they did not make us feel rushed in any kind of way.The staff person did very well and was very informative about each exhibit that you experience inside. I think there was about six displays. Each one was unique to the story. He was also willing to answer any kind of questions you had. We have done the pirate museum in the Bahamas twice and I feel that I enjoyed this one so much more
great place to take kids , tho we didnt have any with us, it would be great for kids and adults also, great way to learn about pirates. had fun
We purchased the Combination Ticket for $19.00 which saved us $6.00 and the New England Pirate Museum was part of the deal. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It was fun and interesting. Our tour guide was dressed like a pirate and told the group tales of various pirates's fate through history. I would recommend this. There are stairs and it is dark. It may be scary for young children.
Its a great tour. It was a part of the package deal we got and this tour was so worth it. The guy that gave the tour was delightful to listen to. He was engaged and gave plenty of good information. He was also very personable. It was a great attraction in Salem to learn a lot about pirates. The museum is very orchestrated. Absolutely enjoyable.
My husband and I really enjoyed the New England Pirate Museum! Our guide (I wish I remembered his name) was so informative and enjoyable to listen to. The actual displays were nice, a bit worn (some) but for me that didn't take away from the great experience. I liked the Pirate ship replica and we navigated as if we were walking through it. Oh yeah - the very end is the BEST part too ;) Good time!
If you like pirate history, this is a must see. Very nice displays, and worth the money if you purchase the combo ticket for this museum, the witch dungeon, and witch history. This was my favorite of the three, it was the longest and most intricate.
It was great!!!! I know know Portugal was and might still be an import/export country! It's worth it and be ready when you arrgh about to walk out of the tour matey! Tour guides are entertaining and explain well!
