The tour of this historic house was informative and allowed you to see the vertical log construction of that period. You also had a sense of what living in the late 1700s might have been like.

Ste. Genevieve has lots of interesting, historical spots to visit but we didn't want to spend all of our time visiting every historical home. I asked some locals which one site they would recommend and they said it would be the Bolduc House. We followed through on their suggestion. The entrance fee included the gift shop across from the Bolduc House, the Bolduc Home which is furnished in period pieces, the neatly maintained garden, and the home next door. All of the stops provided a window into what life was like back in the 1700's. Everything we saw is nicely maintained and only requires a bit of walking - about 1/2 block totally. We completed the tour in approximately 45 minutes which was great because there were other things we wanted to see as well. The last home provided a special display about slavery which was an unanticipated bonus of the tour.

This is a well narrated view of what life was like in the 1760s in a French colonial town. The home is well preserved and restored. It is well worth a visit.

The buildings date from the early 1700s. Visited with a guide, you see the insides of two of the houses. Life was Spartan then. The visit seemed a little overpriced at $8 per head.

Learned so much about Ste Genevieve in this museum, including the fact that Louisiana and Ste Genevieve share many of the same families. The lady in the museum was a delight and shared so much information with us. Glad this was our first stop here!

Very interesting as it shows the period construction and some of the furnishings of that time period. However, our guide could give dates and names, but no real other information. Little side notes about the day to day living in that period or about the family would have added to it.

This was one of the most interesting houses I visited in Ste Genevieve, however the tour guide gave us barely any information on the houses when I visited. I assume it might have something to do with it being the off season, but a good tour guide is really essential at ALL times. Out of the houses on the tour you can purchase from the Welcome Center in town, this one has the best gift shop and you tour two houses, and the kitchen gardens for the Bolduc House.

We decided to stop here and take a tour on our weekend getaway to Sainte Genevieve. The little downtown area is full of pre-Civil War Era buildings and homes...this is one you can tour. It may actually be the oldest, but don't quote me on that. A sweet little lady toured us through the home, and not only did she know a lot about the construction, she knew a lot about the furniture pieces in the home. She then showed us the backyard and the home next door. If you have the time, please go by and check this place out. The tour doesn't take long, but you will learn a lot. I applaud Sainte Genevieve for preserving this and other structures in their town.

Nous avons vraiment adoré ce musée et nous croyons que Ste-Geneviève au Missouri aurait avantage à être bien connu au Québec, dans le reste du Canada et en France, bien sûr. Il s'agit du plus vieux village fondé par des Blancs au Missouri et il s'agissait d'un groupe de Canadiens Français venus du Québec dans les années 1700. Situé sur le bord du Mississippi, ces gens sont venus par cette voie, évidemment et contrairement à la ville de St-Louis tout près, il ne s'agissait pas de coureurs des bois, mais plutôt d'agriculteurs en majorité. La Maison Bolduc est la maison de Louis Bolduc, un marchand canadien français du Québec qui avait fait le voyage par le fleuve à partir de Montréal en passant par Chicago (si je me souviens bien des détails du tour guidé!) et est ensuite arrivé à Ste-Geneviève, toujours par voie fluviale. Ce dernier a construit sa maison en 1792 dans un style très ancien de la Normandie. Vraiment magnifique!Nous avons eu la grande chance d'avoir un tour guidé d'1h30 avec la directrice du musée. Normalement, ce n'est pas elle qui fait les tours guidés et elle s'est excusé d'avance si elle allait trop dans les détails. Moi, ça m'a plutôt fait plaisir car j'adore les détails! Cette femme parle couramment l'anglais, l'espagnol et le français car elle a fait beaucoup beaucoup de recherches historiques dans les archives dans ces trois langues vu que Ste-Geneviève à d'abord appartenu à la Nouvelle-France, et plus tard à l'empire espagnol et enfin aux États-Unis. Elle est vraiment très passionnée et c'est rare que je dis ça, mais je dirais qu'elle a réponse à tout. Les meubles sont d'époque, le jardin est tel qu'il l'était dans le temps (vraiment magnifique!) avec les mêmes plantations et la guide ne manque pas d'anecdotes à nous raconter sur Louis Bolduc et sa famille. Détail un peu plus sombre, il avait des esclaves...Nous avons fait la visite avec un couple de Kansas City et elle a eu la gentillesse de parler un peu français durant la visite pour mon mari qui n'est pas très bon en anglais. C'est un site vraiment extraordinaire, très bien conservé et mis en valeur. Il y a aussi une boutique de souvenirs. Il y a d'autres site historiques de descendants de Canadiens Français à Ste-Geneviève, mais nous n'avons pas eu le temps de les visiter. Quelqu'un qui voudrait le faire devrait y consacrer plusieurs jours. Ste-Geneviève est une petite ville américaine vraiment différente qui ressemble beaucoup aux vieux villages du Québec. Je vous conseille de commencer votre visite de Ste-Geneviève par le centre d'information touristique de la petite ville. On vous passera un court vidéo de l'histoire des Canadiens français à Ste-Geneviève. Très accueillant comme endroit. Vous pouvez aussi avoir un forfait spécial si vous voulez visiter tous les sites historiques en une ou deux journées, si je me souviens bien. Il y aussi un traversier qui traverse le fleuve Mississippi pas très loin. En traversant du côté de l'Illinois, vous pouvez aller visiter d'autres sites de l'Ancien Empire français en Amérique du Nord tel que Fort-de-Chartres.
