After the packed Old town of Quebec, it is nice to get out to see the real Quebec. The Musee des Anciens Canadiens in St Jean Port Joli on the south shore showcases Quebec's ancient woodcarving tradition. basically a store with a museum of REALLY LARGE carvings (prime ministers, animals, heroes, etc). a little heavy on the sales pitches but you can't blame them. But across the street are 7 small huts. This is where it all began: the huts are small shops which feature authentic small, folksy carvings. Children will LOVE this!
The Museum was so well done and the store boasts the works of many area artists! From carvings, to jewellery, small gifts! Beautifully displayed and the people working that day were so friendly! It was a lovely stop, plus a cafe! Bought some beautifully crafted glass earrings ! A great tour, lovely sitting area outside! Other items to view!
The museum offers a glimpse into the history of woodcarving in Quebec. Take the time to observe and talk with the on-site wood carver. Entrance to only the gift shop is free.
Nombreuses oeuvres d art , sculptures etc. Il y a p ê trop d explications parfois.
