If you have the time, Ste Anne de Beaupre is about 30 minutes outside of Quebec City, and worth the extra drive. With a fascinating history of "curing" sick parishioners, this was my second visit. We went to New Year's Day mass and listened to the wonderful choir.
This is such a beautiful area....we decided to drive off the main highway.,.took the backway which I strongly recommend...it is like stepping back in time...we stopped at Chez Marie...where they offer fresh baked bread with a maple syrup. Must stop if in the area. this road is at least 20 km long...the basilica suddenly appears through the branches..great place very quaint and picturesque...small shops and boutiques. and restaurants.. we stayed at the Quality Inn on the main highway.
We stopped here after skiing and before heading back to Quebec City. As we only had 20 minutes before Mass started, it was a very quick visit. We initially went to the museum and saw a chair and kneeler that Saint Pope John Paul II had used. Entering the basilica, we went downstairs and I thought it was quite lovely. However, going upstairs was a definite 'wow' - the magnitude and beauty was very impressive. If we ever go back to beautiful Quebec, we will certainly return here.
It was a beautiful scenic drive along the Saint Lawrence river from Quebec City to Sainte-Anne-De-Beaupre Basilica. We were impressed by the beauty and the rich history of the Basilica. You will feel closer to heaven and inner peace during your visit.
Pilgrims from far and wide visit this church, its beautiful architecture, the mosaic and the relic of St. Anne is a sight to behold. If you are a Catholic, put this in the top portion of the bucket list! Hear Mass and see the small altars of different Saints set up behind the main Altar. The chapel underneath the Basilica is beautiful as well, this is a must-visit for everyone.Free parking, lots of hotels nearby, restaurants within a couple of kilometers from the Basilica.
a beautiful church on the St Laurence river a lot of history lots of staff and security I walked the neighborhood and town around this massive basilica as we could see it from miles away north and sud stayed at the Manic motel on the way to Bae Commo to catch a flight to Sheverville
A truly amazing and beautiful shrine not far from Quebec City. The drive to the shrine is also quite scenic taking you through Montmorency Falls. Well worth the drive.
Peaceful and beautiful art. Spend some time, visit the 2 floors of the Church, take time contemplating the Church and the grounds. Lots to see. Take a bus at the train station. It cost more or less 12 $ round trip. It leaves at 9:45 am. You can choose to spend the day or go back to Quebec after 1 pm. Visit http://www.intercar.qc.ca/ssadb.qc.ca
