We went last week-end for the dog party. It was a second visit to the dog mountain, home of he artist Stephen Huneck. What can you find at dog mountain, a Dog Chapel,, an art gallery , a small pound, and a walking pat. The last Summer Dog Party was one of the biggest dogs social event. The dog can run around freely, swim in the pound. It's very relaxing, free, and the dogs really enjoy it. Dog mountain, it's always a good place to visit, beautiful view from the mountain top, bring your dog to have fun and run free. You do not need a dog to go, you could visit the art gallery and enjoy the scenery.
This is a great place to visit with your dog. I walked out of the dog chapel being able to finally accept the passing of my pup Petey. Read the postings on the walls and you will understand.
I moved down the street from Dog Mountain several years ago (before Stephen and Gwen passed away). It is a magical place that brings back so many memories of our past and current 4 legged friends. They have great hiking trails , open for free to anyone and always open for our dogs to run free. There is no other place on earth like this.If you have a chance to attend one of their Dog Parties, try to make it even if you can't bring your dog. It is hilarious to watch all the dogs interact and compete for various fun events.
My husband asked..."and why are we going out of our way to Saint Johnsbury?"...I replied...we are not leaving Vermont until we have been to Dog Mountain. If you are a dog lover it is so worth the stop. Number it is beautiful up on the mountain. The testimonies on the wall will bring you to tears. Be sure and have a picture of your beloved pet to leave behind...it is such a wonderful place. And as we left...my husband said with tears in his eyes...."thank you for taking me to Dog Mountain".
The Dog Chapel is an incredible place to honor your four footed friends. It is truly spiritual and there is a feeling of connection when entering. Seeing all the photos and messages touched my heart. We put our sweet dog's photo there with the others. It's a wonderful place to sit and reflect on the beauty and love of our furry families.
never seen a place like this for dogs...iles of trails.. a chapel,,m a gift store.. free but male donations...
lots of land and water and dogs freedom for canines to be canines and owners get to relax. sad endings for the founders but locals have stepped in to keep it afloat so please spend your souvenier money here. bring photos of dear departed dogs to put up in dog chapel.
Go at Sunset - great photos! Even in winter months there is so much to see and do. You do not have to bring your dog to like it. Easy directions with your iPhone. Spend at least 15 minutes just taking photos outside! Lots of fun things just around the grounds.
This is a wonderful place to take your dog for some outdoor social activity. The play area sits on top of a hill with amazing views! So something for the owner to enjoy as well. Everyone I met was very friendly and had playful well behaved animals. Dogs are allowed to run free over the entire area, including the gift shop. It's a unique and very pet friendly place.
I couldn't believe how nice of a place this is!!! We planned on just visiting briefly but ended up staying a coupe of hours because we (especially our dog) were having a great time! This is such a scenic location: on the side of a mountain in a rural farm area. Dogs are allowed EVERYWHERE, and NO leashes needed, even in the buildings. There are wide-open fields, swimming holes, toys, trails, and a whole bunch of other things any dog will love! We arrived early in the morning and were the only people there, but within minutes about a dozen other dogs arrived and it was a blast! Running free, swimming, fetching, chasing... Just dogs being dogs in a place dedicated just for them! The dog chapel is a beautiful touch! I heard that there are about 3 major events held there every year; I wish I could've made the Columbus Day weekend one! There were supposedly over 200 dogs gathered! If you're driving by or staying in the area (near the jct. of 93 & 91 | NH/VT border) this is a definite MUST SEE for dog and their lovers! This is a one-of-a-kind location; I wish there were more places like this! Will definitely be stopping by again on my next trip in the area!
